After getting a copy of this game from an EB missing the 3rd CD I finally got another copy a month back as a gift. I have the game on my PS2 but I could never stand playing it due to the poor graphics. Hence why i'd rather get a PC version whenever I can.
So now that I rebuilt my rig to an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ @ 2.4Ghz platform with the Uli chipset for AGP/PCIE compatibility to get more life out of my 7800GS AGP. I now find that the game is totally a mess on the PC. I've never seen such poor performance since the old 680x0 to PowerPC switch and that was two different types of processors (CISC and RISC). I remember games acting freaky back then. Anyways looking up on here I found that I needed a windows update for the dual core support. So I got it and its working for the first part. Both Audio and Video are in sync like they should. Then I get to the hovercraft section and instantly performance takes a nosedive. Reducing resolution down helps but with my specs I shouldn't have to go from 1680x1050 back down to around old 640x480. So I try to find a fix for that on here. Now this is getting a tad disturbing. I've got people saying to do about a half dozen things to try and fix this same problem and then admitting not all of them work for everyone. Out of all of them the only sane one I read was one stating the nvidia drivers and boards beyond the 5 series are the problematic ones. Now i've seen this before and can understand since my PC version of MGS2 won't work on anything but older ATI 9x00 series boards it seems. Now I know this game isn't in production anymore but i've got games from the same time period which run better than this on my newer hardware. So should I just dump this game in my big box of games I never play or even dare to think about building a rig of older PC parts just to get this to work? I've just about had it with this game and we consumers shouldn't have to troubleshoot every aspect of our systems just to get something to work right. From how the posts on here sound it seems this has been a problem from launch day and exists across various configurations. I like Ubisoft's products but this does make me question. |

Do you notice any difference when you set the water quality level to low?
