First of all here are my specs: p.4 2.4 ghz, 1 gb of ram, NX6600GT..
im running the game at 1024x768 and I got almost all the time around 60fps..
the problem is that whenever i go to the water area the fps can drope to 15-25 and it's really really annoying..
If I disable the water effects the fps will be around 45-50 but I really want this reflective water effect and I don't think the problem is due to the video card or the computer himself.
I'll be very gratful if someone can help me.

Sounds like a problem with the video drivers. Which Forceware drivers are you using now, and have you tried using older or more recent ones?

EDIT: that's odd, why has this thread been moved to general discussion?

I've just downloaded yesterday the rescent one (77.72)and it didn't fix anything..
I'll maybe try to instal and older one to see if it will help.

edit: i've installed old video drivers and nothing has changed..

I just tested the game with a 6600 GT myself and I encountered the same problem, the framerate dropped dramatically when the water reflections were enabled and only setting the water detail level to low helped. Another solution: revert to the 66.93 drivers; they were the first drivers to be compatible with the 6600 GT and still seem to work.

Thanks Daroth, this driver really helped and the game runs good now.
btw, is it still normal that the fps can drope to 35-40 in this area even with a 6600gt?

No not really, I didn't notice any drop in fps in that area while running the old drivers. Do you get better fps while running other games? This might be caused by programs that are running in the background (spyware for example).

Actually I don't really notice when the frame rate dropes to 40-35 because it's still quite smooth but for example in the city of Hillis the frame rate there can drope to 25-30.. it's still ok but I can notice it.
I have disabled some of the programs in the backround but I don't think it changed anything.
Do u got always like 60 fps even in those water areas?
btw, im running the game at 1024x760, all other options are on.

Yes, it's always maxed out at 60 fps regardless of the location. There could be a lot of reasons why your getting such a low fps but I don't think it's related to the game itself.

I've got this prob too (with Forceware 71 & latest 77.s), and can't downgrade to the fist Geforce 6600GT supported Forceware drivers, as it screws things up in other games like FarCry too much.
There's no way performance should be bad with Gfx cards (I won a Nvidia Geforce 6600GT too) and systems like ours (I can play Doom3 High quality 1280x1024 nice and smoothly).
This is a shame as one of the reasons I bought this Gfx card was to play this game more smoothly at higher res with more options enabled.

heya i was having the exact same problem as you and ive got a 6800 ultra! but i found a fix that worked for me so hopefully it will work for you as well. All i did was disable triple buffering in the advanced settign and all of a sudden my fps went back up to 60 w/o loss of the nice water effects.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to help here. Did you install the patch?

I'd like to contact Nvidia about this, but there doesn't seem to be any way of contacting them directly. They always refer to the video card manufacturer for technical support, but this is clearly a problem with their drivers...

anybody figure something out about this?! I have a Geforce 6800 1 gig of RAM and an Athlon 64 3200+ clearly the game should be running great! Tongue The problem is like everybody else.. its in the water. Low detail runs smoother but its ugly.. clearly I didnt pay $300+ dollars for a 6800 so I can run games at low detail.. This is so frustrating!! Doom 3 fine.. Farcry fine.. Halflife 2 runs fine.. what gives here??

Do you still have the problem if you disable triple buffering in the compatibility settings?

yeah.. still have it. and I've tried other various settings and combination but its still slow as heck, even at 640x480. Low quality water runs smoothly so I'm guessing its just some sort of bug with the water shader either with the game itself or Nvidia's drivers. I'm not holding my breath for the problem to get solved though.. at least not by Ubi or Nvidia officially. I'm sure this game isn't one of their top priorities unfortunately. Is there any of tweaking the games settings with a .cfg or .ini file? I looked in the directory but didn't see anything like that. I guess maybe that stuff is stored in the registry.. hmm..

The game worked great on my old FX5700LE (that le is for Lite edition. ;P) Never noticed any change in frame rate on that card.

Now with my 6800GT I Pump up the resolution and antialiasing and it runns sweet till it gets to the water, where it starts to chug. Definitly under 5fps. Frown
