Somethings wrong - BG&E can't be this bad.
The game runs vvveeerrryy slow - even at low resolution and the sound is not sync'd with the video. In some places the video is blank and in other places there is video but no sound. I'm running Win98 on P3 866 Mhz, 256 RAM, Nvidia MX400 graphic card with the most current driver, SB Live 5.1. Have tried various video settings but there's not much difference in how slow the game runs. I don't have any unneeded appls running when I start the game. I don't have any virtual disks open. I have Vsync turned on. Did an Unistall and re-install which helped a little bit but the game runs so slow (both clips and game play) that it makes the game unplayable! Looking help. Thanks. mine's pretty much identical, only mine's at 900 MHz....
Basicaly you need to try out different settings. I found this from someone here on this forum, maybe it'll help ya out! P.S: sorry if I don't know the guy's name, so please don't sue me... pretty please?.... -------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm a bit shocked that people are still having issues with Beyond Good and Evil, since I solved these issues way back at the end of December on my own computer following the settings someone else posted in this very forum. I had practically every single issue everyone is mentioning: there were extreme audio out-of-synch issues (the video lagged the audio by at least 10 seconds), the frame rate was unplayably low, massive glitching (random seams and such) with the textures occured, *and* only Jade's eyeballs showed up! So I've got a strong hunch that most people's problems are a result of "improper" settings, rather than driver issues. Anyway, here are my exact settings with version 1.00, feel free to fiddle with them as you wish. Graphics settings: Resolution: 800x600 (lower res, of course, produces better frame rate) Refresh rate: 60 Hz Advanced settings: Water detail: Medium Blur: Off Flare: Off Shadows quality: Medium (significant impact on performance, from my experience) **The key part is this section** Compatibility (under Advanced settings): Check Manual compatibility settings Everything checked except *Triple-buffering, Multi vertex stream, and W buffer.* I'm almost 100% certain that *Triple-buffering* (which was enabled for me by default) is responsible or the sluggish frame rates and/or out-of-synch audio. By far the most significant of the settings to disable. Disabling *Multi vertex stream* (also on by default) was also crucial, it caused either the glitching/seaming and Jade's bodily disappearance 'cept for her eyes, I don't remember which. *W buffer* I disabled simply because the forum post I read also had it disabled. I figured that the "fix" would've become common knowledge by now, but I suppose not. It took me at least three hours (mainly browsing every single posting in this tech forum) to get BG&E up and running, but it runs just fine at the locked 30fps for me now (according to fraps) -- and I've only got a wimpy nVidia Geforce4 MX420! So just about everyone with a decent graphics card should get playable framerates with BG&E, in my humble opinion. I hope that helps people out, especially nVidia owners who are struggling to play the game. -------------------------------------------------------------------- MUHAHAHA!!! |

Upgrading the OS may fix things also.
gnogtr always says Win98 isn't the ideal Operating System to play BG&E on. ----- |

I ust use win 2000, and it's a great OS for stable games...

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked them all out - and everything is set up according to the comments.
Triple buffering was already turned off so that didn't help. Refresh changes are not allowed (greyed out) so I changed it in the vid card settings to 60 Hz. That really helped clean up the pixilation and color distortion on the faces but did nothing to fix the slow video play. The game still runs way too slowly - the video is in slow motion. By the time the clip gets to Jade the picture is lagging the sound by 10 seconds - really frustrating! Not sure what to try next...??? P.S. I also bought (and couldn't use becuase my vid card wasn't next-gen) another Ubisoft game (Prince of Persia - Sands of Time) - so I'm sure not impressed with Ubi at this time. |

eeuh.. if you check out the sys requirements of POP, you might have seen that they specifically said 'No MX440!'. Too bad...

The same goes for SC: Pandora Tomorrow and Far Cry. Do you really expect to run this game fast on those systems? You barely meet the minimum requirements. Put it on 640X480 and drop all the settings to low, that should make it run ok.

Yeah, you need to look at some DDR400. i use some of that when I had my 3000+, it was FAST, as a matter of fact, it's the same stuff I have now and it still works great. When you do get some, get at least a gig, I can't stand 512 anymore...Also, on thing you'll notice is that PC2100 is holding you back, even PC2700 is a bit slow these days....I'm only putting PC3200 in computers I build now, I don't give them an option, it's just 512 or 1GB, because you're getting PC3200

Cool
I'll look around for 1ghz DDR - Hopefully I won't need to upgrade for a long time after this Thanks Edit: Uhm.. it says this at the bottom of that page According to SiS official document, SiS 748 chipset has limitation DDR supports: CPU at FSB 200MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR400; CPU at FSB 333MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR200; CPU at FSB 400MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR200/DDR266; Whats that mean? ----- |

OK gnogtr- I know my system, even though it's not that old, isn't the latest screamin-demon but it should be able to run the game at least satisfactorily!
I am trying to run the game on 640x480 and with all the settings on low but the game still runs in unacceptably slow motion with a huge lag bewteen vid and audio. What can I try to fix this??? P.S. Yes I know the MX440 won't work for Sands of Time so I'll keep POP for my next system upgrade. [This message was edited by G-emo on Wed March 31 2004 at 09:45 AM.] |

It's possibly Win 98 paired with your P3. Remember your game can only run as fast as your processor.
BB: What that means is if you're using an AMD 2400+ or below, it won't support DDR400. If you're using a 2500+ to a 3000+, it won't support DDR200. Your processor runs on the 333FSB, therefore, it'll run DDR400. gnogtr, I hear you about Win98 and my P3 but shouldn't this combo at least be a bit better than the min requirements? - and therefore shouldn't the game run better than slow mo with severe audio/vid lag???
Is here nothing I can do/tweak to play this game on my existing PC? |

The only thing that can really help run it faster is to lower the settings and disable AA, which you've already done. The minimum requirements are only to make the game run, it doesn't mean that it will run it good. I don't have any suggestions other than upgrades, the game runs, that's a lot better than many ppl here.
