Whenever I go to a race, the sound will suddenly become covered in static. Then, soon after, my computer crashes. What should I do?

I don't think the problem is my video card, I just got a new one a few days ago.

Also, I don't know if this would contribute to anything or not, but I'm playing it on GameTap.

Reinstall the game (if possible, I don't know GameTap works). If that doesn't help, post your dxdiag (Start->Run...->type "dxdiag" and enter->Save all information->copy-paste everything in the .txt file here).

I got the sound errors before, but no crash. To fix the sound, all I had to do was run dxdiag and set accelleration under both sound tags to "Basic Excelleration" rather than "Full Excelleration."

Also, you might want to check under BGE settings that it's using your actual sound card's drivers rather than the default ones. I had to make sure of that before since my sound wasn't playing in the cinimatics.

I'm having the same issue, and I'm also playing on gametap. The races worked when I last played (around November 2005), but now(April 2006) the first race crashes every time.
