Ok, I need help before I uninstall this dang thing and every other Ubisoft title. First off my specs...

I can easily play any game out but I seem to have problems with Ubisoft titles only. BGAE has given me the most fits. It continually freezes no matter what I try. I've used 4 different driver version, changed the resolution, tried it on quality, performance, and high performance, changed the graphics detail, swirched to bilinear...nothing stops it.

DXDIAG says all is perfect. No other game does this. Oh, and I installed the BGAE patch too.

I'm lost. I'm liking the game but I'm really starting to get pist. Farcry did the same damn thing until 1.1 patch. Splintercell PD only did it once in a blue moon. Turning off aa and af stopped it on SC. Also, it's turned off on BGAE too.

I know my rig isn't the best possible, but it handles EVERYTHING else with ease.

Any ideas before I take this thing back?

Well, Alcohol HAS virtual drives, but I don't have any enabled through it. I never activated any through Nero either.

So How do I get ris of them if I haven't enabled either?

When I have used virtual drives in the past, if I look go Start/My Computer...the virtual drives wil show up. Nothing is showing now when I do that except for my hard, floppy and cd rom...

Do they expect us to uninstall the whole program(s) just to play the game? What a pain if thats the only alternative.

We have always been told to not have them installed, due to the copy protection on the games.

I have switched to plan B and called for some assistance.

I achieved a slight improvement...maybe this info can help you help me...

As we all know, the Onboard Nvidia sound bites. I turned down the acceleration a tad and also the quality and I was actually able to play for around an hour before it went freezing up again. Getting a stand alone sound card is in the plans hopefully next week or so...

Think this really had an effect or was I just lucky? I'll uninstall Alcohol and see if that really does anything...

Edit: OK, I turned the hardware accelleration down an additional notch (It's in the middle now) and my sound quality one is down one notch...Last night I played for 2 1/2 hours straight with no freezing! I couldn't notice any sound difference either...

Anyway, keep this in mind because there are many of us who have the Nvidia chipset who haven't gotten around to buying a sound card. Maybe someone in the future with the same prob can learn from this. Thanks guys...

If your onboard sound supports AC97, I suggest you update the latest drivers to give you full acceleration and environmental audio effects. I doubt your sound would be a problem, more likely you are having a problem with something else...

If the game freezes but you are able to crash back to windows, then it's probably a problem with memory allocation, possibly something you are running in the background is leaking memory.

If the game freezes out your whole rig, then you might have two possible problems... 1. either your graphics card or mobo components are overheating, turn on your mobo's saftey for this if you have it, then your comp will reboot or shut down and then you'll know. 2. You're memory timings aren't in optimal sync with your processor. Look in your bios for a "DDR performance" setting, which will give you the best sync between mem and cpu. If you experience BSoD's (blue screen of death) quite often from windows, then this is your best bet solution. Be warned, messing with your Bios can be dodgy business, so write down any settings you change, and if you arent sure of what you are changing, dont change it at all. If, after changing you are experiencing problems... change it back to what it was immediately. And for goodness sake, don't overclock your cpu, voltage or set the memory speed/frequency too high or too low... you'll end up with fried bits and bobs and I'll feel real bad

Try defraging your harddrive after installing, and run scandisk of course... to check everything is in order... it may just be a simple caching problem after installing large things due to fragmentation... although come to think of it, that would just slow the game down. But it's worth doing it anyway just to get your computer fit.

Oh yeah, obviously, update the nVidia UA graphics drivers to whatever the latest is, I'm running 56.64 with no problems and some minor frame rate increases on a geForce 4 ti 4400. This new release is generally stable.

Post back with update, especially if you managed to solve the problem, might be useful for others.

Failing all what kip0r has suggested, I can't think of anything else to suggest.

Reinstallation would be a last resort - and should only be contemplated if you find your system is really doing bad things.

BSoD's rarely occur on WinXP - you might have the odd General Exception or Page faults.

Have you tried changing the size of your swap file/pagefile? It can sometimes make a difference.
