Hello,
i've noticed that when you invert the camera control in the options menu, not only the y-axis of the mouse is inverted, but also the x-axis! Thus BG&E becomes actually unplayable, because if you move the mouse to the left the view itself moves to the right and vice versa! Is this a bug? Any suggestion on this? Have already tried to do some modifications in the registry, but with no success!
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
yes I have installed the new official patch, but the mouse problem is still there! Too bad! Hasn't anyone the same problem, or are they all playing games with no inverted y-axis? Ok I'm no programmer, but I think this mouse bug could be fixed by changing some values in the main-exe. Dunno, but maybe we can inform the programmers, so they can do this little fix. Well this would be great though it seems that I'm the the only one who has a problem with this mouse bug. Has someone an idea how to contact them? Perhaps the admin of this PC tech forum?
Thanks in advance!!!

Isn't a bug. It's a game design choice.

Using this option you can switch from 'camera move' to 'player move' mode.

Hi ovale1,

but who is playing BG&E with this "player move" mode? I think 0 % of all BG&E players. I can't imagine that this is a game design choice. For me it's a useless option. Me and IMHO a lot of other BG&E players simply want to customize the mouse-look, so that we can play this game like the other games, who has from the start the "correct" and comfortable mouse-look-option (never saw a game where you can reverse the x-axis!!! Stupid!). Game designers just give the players the possibilty to switch between these camera- and mouse-look-modes. Let them choose. That's it, no big effort, just customer-friendly. And that is what game designers want - satisfied customers!!!!

Go ahead and email tech support about this. I'm with you guys on it, I hate the inverting thing as well. I threw an Xbox controller across the room when we played MOH: FL and couldn't get the y axis to work normaly. The email address can be found on Ubi's homepage.

Hear hear. I currently find this game quite unplayable because there is no separate invert-option for the y-axis. I suppose it never occured to the devs or the qa team that someone might want to play a 3rd person game with y-axis inverted.

Has anyone figured out any way to invert y-axis only? I haven't even found where the configuration information is stored.

Also I'm curious does anyone really use the both axes inverted mode? I initially thought it was a bug, but since they did not change it with the 1.01 patch, I am intrigued.

The configuration settings are stored under the following key in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ubisoft\Beyond Good & Evil\SettingsApplication.INI\

I located it while snooping around to see if I could force custom resolution/refresh rate combo's.

What you're looking for is in the subsection labeled the following:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ubisoft\Beyond Good & Evil\SettingsApplication.INI\Key bindings

Note that the inversion axis selections are separate. You should be able to invert only one axis by setting its value to 0.

FAIR WARNING: BACK UP THE ENTIRE TREE BEFORE MODIFYING ANYTHING. IF ANYTHING SCREWS UP, RE-MERGE THE BACKUP WITH THE REGISTRY.

I don't get it. The Options menu settings function independently of the registry settings. Who programmed this?

Yes, this is a most annoying proble. I'll return my copy of the game if I can't fix this. The registry values do nothing. This was a horrible programmer option. Did they not beta test this game at all?

Hmmm

"Are we going to cover this again? NO. Please use the other 1,000 threads on this issue, please."

And in any of those "1000" threads is the problem solved or even properly addressed?

No, it isn`t.

One extremely stupid solution I read a while back from someone was to play splinter cell in none inverted fashion and "get used to it".

That is just pathetic and ridiculous.

To those of us who play inverted style, none-inverted is counter-intuative and unnatural.
Would the person who suggested this accept the same solution if a game only offered inverted option (Which would be counter-intuative to them)?

I doubt it very much.

Although this appeared to be a good game, I returned it to the store because of this and in the future will be extremely wary of buying any game from the same developer.

I hope the problem will be fixed, and if it is, I will happily purchase it (again). But in the meantime, there are many good games around and more coming, so the loss of this one will not really be mourned.
My money will go to games I can comfortably play, not ones that are counter intuative.
By not fixing this simple problem,it seems as if mine and others money and loyalty are not required.
In a market such as this, where the next big thing to compete for ones attention is always only a few weeks away, I find this attitude very surprising.

YES, there is no freaking fix for this yet. It was a developer decision. They may fix it in a patch, but if they don't, there is nothing I can do about it, I don't even work for UBI, I'm a volunteer. UBI doesn't even read these forums, if you don't like their decisions, then call them up, there is a support link at the top of this page.

Is there even an unofficial patch that can get around this?

I really want to play this game but it has been sitting on my shelf for two months now as I can't play it with the weird reversed x-axis controls.

If it is a design decision then why is the x-axis not reversed on console versions of the game?

I forgot to ask...is there any way to contact Ubisoft about this other than by calling them by phone? Someone mentioned an e-mail address but I can't find it.

Thanks!
