Beyond Good & Evil is a french game, but it seems like the original language was english (I think that because mainly, all the demos were in english and the game first came out in the US)
But still that just shows the marketing intent, but it doesn't mean that the game original language wasn't originally developped in french?
Does anyone know what is the original language?
Oh and does the European version of the game uses Starforce?
First question is something for the general forum, as for your second question: BG&E doesn't use Starforce, it uses Tagès. It's very similar to Starforce since it also installs kernel drivers but unlike Starforce it will also perform a disc check during actual gameplay (basically every time you load a new area). To make matters worse the copy protection was badly implemented and sometimes introduces game-stopping bugs especially when you installed the 1.01 patch (this was never patched by Ubisoft but luckily one of the forum members here wrote a program to repair the savegames). Read this thread for more information: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=400102&f=908103432&m=963106606
As far as I'm aware there also no uninstaller available for the drivers so you have to uninstall them manually (for some reason nobody cares, I guess most people don't even know it installs drivers). To my knowledge there have been no reports of system instability caused by Tagès drivers. I suggest not to install the patch when you install the game to minimize the chance of running into bugs.
Actually I have no idea what kind of protection is used for the digital download version. Tagès isn't used for digital downloads as far as I know, and I'm not sure if they already used Starforce back then. It would be much easier if Ubisoft provided those details on their website... I'd just get the retail version and uninstall the Tagès drivers manually (tandpl.sys and enodpl.sys are the two drivers installed by Tagès, however unlike Starforce they contain no information about their origin) after you finished playing the game.
