the game runs very smoothly up until this sneak scene with the fog. it's impossible for me to complete this part because the lag is so horrible that i move 5 seconds after i hit the key. i've turned everything uneccessary off already, too, as far as i know. any suggestions?

Somewhat humorously, my old Geforce 2 MX400 (soon to be replaced with an ATI Radeon 9200SE) and Athlon XP 1700+ (1.494GHz) that can't run the game acceptably at all except at 640x480 (interestingly it runs supposed resource hog Far Cry fine) doesn't slow down at all. What kind of video card do you have? I'd suggest fooling with the advanced settings in your card's control program (check Control Panel, Display, Settings tab, Advanced, look at all the tabs) and updating your drivers.

Don't get the 9200 SE, it's horrible, it's slower than the 8500. If you want a card, spend a little more and get the 9600 XT, that way you won't have to upgrade for 5-6 years. With the 9200, you'll be upgrading as soon as you buy Far Cry.

Now that you mention it I remember someone telling me the 8500 was good. I really haven't been keeping track of ATI since the Rage line days which was kinda unreliable and not-good, so I turned to GeForce.
But, ouch, the 9600 XT is $158 US minimum. I could get the 9600 SE from Gigabyte for $70, and the 8500 will cost me $98. I'm gonna research the 9600 SE. Thanx for the tip. My GeForce2 MX400 has worked a lot better than it's supposed to, even running Far Cry Demo well at medium to high visuals, but it's starting to annoy the living he** out of me, showing its age when I ask it to do anything Hardware T&Lish... |

quote: missthyrus, go to manual override in the settings program and uncheck the mipmapping. It makes a difference for me. Also, at *website removed* you can find a fixed exe (for the patched game only) that allows you to play the game at 512 x 384 resolution. That has made it possible for me to run the video in synch with the sound for the first time. The fog still tends to slow down somewhat. x G-2b, playing the fast game. . ***Edited for Content - Bitebug2003 [This message was edited by bitebug2003 on Sun March 28 2004 at 05:34 PM.] |
