BGE continues to crash on me at completely random times. Sometimes minutes into the game, sometimes after half an hour, but it almost always crashes... screen freezes and can't ALT-TAB or CTRL-ALT-DEL my way out of it. Only thing to do is a hard reset with my power switch. I've got the latest ATI drivers and I've applied the system patch (although I don't have an AMD CPU), but it's still crashing. What's up? Let's try this first: Start Task Manager (bring it up by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del on windows desktop) and go to the Processes tab. Now when you start the game, you should see a bge.exe process running there (may have to alt-tab). Try to right-click bge.exe, click "set Affinity" and then uncheck CPU 1, so that only CPU 0 is selected. If not check for errors in Event viewer:

Start > click "Control Panel" > click "Performance and Maintenance" > click "Administrative Tools" > double-click "Event viewer". There you should check the "system" logs to see if there are yellow (warning) or red (error) entries at the same time the game crashed. If so, if you can provide the information in them it might help to find out exactly what went wrong.

Well, changing the affinity setting seemed to work for awhile. I played a crash-free session yesterday, but then when I played today, it crashed not long into the game.

I'm no expert with the Event Viewer, but I do see an Error in the System Event Viewer. When I open the description, here's what I get:

Just realized that I also had Norton AntiVirus running today, which I had disabled yesterday. I'll turn off again and see if that makes any difference.

Crashed again with Norton not running. Got the same error message in the Event Viewer. Noticed is was preceeded by the same event (not an error) both times, so don't know if that helps any. Here's that message, too:

I don't think those events have anythign to do with the crashes... To be certain you can try to play the game after a clean boot:

Follow the procedures in the "How to perform a clean boot in Windows XP" section and reboot the system (keep in mind that this will probably disable firewall and antivirus software). Now try to run the game again and see if it still crashes. Afterwards you can read the "How to return from a clean boot state" section to set everything back to normal.
