Hi. I've bought Beyond Good and Evil for the PC, and am having problems running it. Specifically, I cannot even start playing the game at all, as the game has problems playing the entire introduction sequence, and locks up the CPU before its over, forcing me to press the reset button.

I read BGENFS's advice on this forum, and tried his approach. What I got was a slower, out of sync introduction while miraculously being able to get some few precious moments of gameplay... until it locked up again. Further attempts produced the same results.

I have disabled shadows, anti-aliasing, water and flair... to no avail. I have tried resolutions ranging from 640x480 to 1280x960 with different refresh rates as well. I have special graphical options set to application preference, so they aren't enforced on the game. I have uninstalled the game, defraged my hard drive, scanned for viruses and removed spyware; I updated my grahics card drivers, my sound card drivers, and my motherboards' drivers, then proceeded to reinstall the game - with and without the patch.


And still nothing.


I'm getting a bit desperate here, because I had great expectations for BG&E and am finding it increasingly difficult to believe I will be able to play it on my PC.

Additional info (if anyone is reading, that is).

I seem to have found a solution at this point.

First, I changed my AGP Speed from 8 to 4x, so it would not demand too much of my card. Second, I switched my resolution and refresh rate to 1152x864 @ 85 Hz, respectively. And third, in the game's options, I have them tweaked as such:

Water Detail: High
Antialiasing: Blur
Flare: On
Shadow Quality: High

Triple Buffering: Off
SSE: Off
HW Vertex Processing: On
Multi Vertex Stream: On
Mipmapping: On
W Buffer: Off
Fastflip: Off
Autogen mipmpap: On

And strangely, it's now working. I've passed the intro, the initial stage of the game, and am already leaving the island with Pey'J in the hovercraft. I'm now a happy camper

I don't know which of those was determinant in allowing me to bypass the initial sequence. It could've been one, some, or all of those things, but I do not know. In any case, I'm glad I'm able to run it, and hopefully, further issues won't plague my remaning playthrough. I'd appreciate opinions on the changes, though, if any shouldn't have been made, or if I should make any other.

happy it's working! had crash problems when I was supposed to leave the island the first time. just wouldn't work. tried to get help from ubi but alas... solved my problem with a new pc and all for bgae!

ps. the min. requirements set by ubi is a joke, you need more than that to be able to run the game with enough power so it won't drive you nuts!

ps 2. xp is a fraud
