the article says we have 187 F-22. Seriously?

Do dog fights actually exist? Does anyone need thrust vectoring nozzles?

60 Billion for 187 means 320,855,614 per jet. Too bad the government did not build 186 and give me the almost 321 million dollars. I'd get a lot more use out of it than having 187 F-22's rather than 186. I'm confident that if all 186 of the F-22's were in the air at the same time in a dog fight, they would have no trouble with the two Su-37s and one Su-47 that exist. LOL.

Yeah!
Screw national defense!
We should be spending billions of dollars on important things!
Like frisbee golf fields and atv trails!
What?
You mean we are?!
Heck yes!
I knew king hussien was a genius!
Let's start an over/under guessing game!
How many billions if dollars that we don't have do you think we can spend on useless crap!!
Oh and the best part!!
The 100,000 people that just lost their job because of the F-22 cancellation!!
YEAH!!!!
Global depresion here we come!!
So much for "Change" huh fellas??

with the amount of other attack planes we have, and the F-35 almost done, we're still in good shape.

Personally, I don't care about the F-22 much, despite being simultaneously a fan of it.

What's more important (and more present an issue) in my life today? A foreign "enemy" air force, or having good, affordable health insurance? What's a graver threat to me and my loved ones: some terrorist in a faraway Third World country or a criminal in my own city (and in every single city in America) who's also, shock!, a fellow U.S. citizen?

More law enforcement. Better and more affordable health insurance. More means to afford an education for more people. These aren't unlikely but still plausible future scenarios. These are current things that need tending to right now and always will. Considering the nation's wallet is pretty tight right now.... A jet isn't going to really matter much if too many of us are uneducated, sick and living in a state of seemingly perpetual crime.

Our problems are internal, not as much external.

Wow..
That's a pretty narrow minded, near-sighted statement, IMHO.

If were not gonna build a lot of F-22s, then I expect us to put out a LOT of F-35s, kind of like we did with the Sherman in WW2.
It wasnt the best tank, but there was a lot of them.
My biggest problem with that theory, is that were allowing Americans to die, when we could have just saved their life by opening up the pocket book a bit.
Death has no price.

How so?

Quiz: who kills more Americans every year? Terrorists or other Americans?

187 F-22... where the air force claims can take on at least 5 enemy fighters each: 935 fighters worth...

i agree with the senate... 187 is WAY more than enough...

Agree with Adnihilis, make love not war. America already spends 10x as much on military than the next guy. America is far from being perfect, allocate those resources that will have more of an impact on everyone's lives.

I fail to see anything narrow minded about his comments.

Building fighter jets instead of schools and roads and prisons and hospitals is narrow minded.

Exactly, if you ask me America spends way too much money and resources on the military i'm glad people are waking up and realising this. I mean look what happened after hurricane Katrina, the richest country in the world and it's own citizens were living in third world conditions for months. 'But hell thats o.k cos we have a fleet of the most advanced fighter jet in the world'. Yeah and no one to use it against, honestly if the U.S had never made the F-22 and were still using F-15s do you really think it would have been invaded by now?

heh You know, not all of us are government sycophants. Some of us actually have the capacity to look at things with perspective and question why things get done as they do (or what motives play a role in decisions made). haha I haven't awakened to anything. I've always thought the nation's priorities need rechecking.

It's always a pity when official policy makes itself known to the rest of the world but the sentiment of a great proportion of the people doesn't.
