The only reason to bother with levels (ranks) is to reach level 40 (1.4 million eXperience Points) in order to open up all the planes and weapon packs.

When you complete the campaign in one pass playing everything in elite only, you typically end up at level (rank) 22 Chief Warrant Officer 5. If you play through the entire campaign in normal, then hard, then elite, you typically end up at level (rank) 27 Major I.

From then on, you just play the campaign over and over again in single or multiplayer or spend your time in TDMs completing the various challenges and collecting the various trophies (PS3) to get more XP to eventually get to level 40 and open everything up (last plane to open up is the Su-47 Berkut.

If you don't care about opening up all the planes and you don't care about TDM, then after you've completed the campaign, you're done

After you've completed the game on the elite setting, you might as well just play the game on normal -- gives you maximum missiles and it's harder for the AI to shoot you out of the sky. There is no point difference at the end of the single player campaigns between the normal, hard, and elite settings.

I suspect the same is true for multiplayer campaign.
