Keeping It Real

Yeah but even back then we had issues with LOMAC. Sometimes saying "no promises" does wonders, Ubisoft might be really really sure, or they're just making a promise. Besides Fall is still quite broad in terms of release period, not actual time either.

Yeah i don't want it to be that sim. The amount of simulation in OGF is plenty for me to still have fun with the game.

I was just checking out some gameplay footage of OverG Fighters. Not as pretty as AC6, but I like what they are doing. It's more "lite" sim that I'm hoping for. Can't tell if the munitions are unlimited or what though. Even though I love AC6, I think OGF is more along the lines of what I'd like to see out of HAWX.

Munitions were unlimited in the lower difficulty settings. When you fly in the highest difficulty setting, you fly and fight with what you took off with. Once you ran out, you would fly back to base, land, rearm, then go back to the fight. Now if it was a mission that started you in mid flight, without having to take off, then you would have to rely on the ammo you took with you. Also, you would rely on your wingman to engage all secondary targets, allowing you to focus on the primary targets.

I've flown missions on there were all I had left was my bullets. The planes would only carry a few hundred rounds of ammo too, so every shot you took was crucial. I'd have 1 or 2 primary targets to take out, and had to get in close to them and dogfight the oldschool way.

You can't have a real "sim" modelling more than one plane per release, so saying LOMAC is a crummy sim partly because it has only 6 planes is somewhat like saying Flacon 4.0 is a crappy arcade game because the radar doesn't auto-lock.

I loved Ace Combat Six because it was just close enough to reality for me to lose myself in it. I fly both high-fidelity sims and arcade flight games, and enjoy both for different reasons.

AC6 did a wonderful job of putting arcade elements in (199 missiles) but also "SP Weapons" that closely modeled both in effect and use real world counterparts (an SFFS is a cluster that you can adjust the HOB with by changing altitude and so on. Granted you would just program this in, but you get the idea.) Also, i thought the story and the FMV were excellent, so that helped a great deal to move the game along.

If HAWX does this, I think it will be just fine. You can't have Open Falcon on the XBOX 360, and if you try you're not going to like what you end up with.

LOCK ON's graphics aren't bad either. I still have screenshots that showcase gorgeous sunsets in that title. It's one of the best looking Simulation type Combat Flight Sims out there.

...and I can't help but wonder where Falcon Allied Force fits into your standards, as that simulates just ONE plane...but its american.

What do you think about the Over G realism level? I personally think that Over G had the perfect level. Smile

I think Over G was great! Once I got over the learning curve I loved it! Being on the HAWX forum has made me want to start playing again, but I lent it to a friend and have to wait to get it back from him, darnit!

I liked Over G as well, but I thought it could have been a LITTLE more realistic in single player mode. But overall it was definitely better than Ace Combat, although that's was fun too if you manage to block out the cutscenes.

The biggest problem with Over G for me was when enemy aircraft would just spawn right on top of you...Not fun. And no they weren't stealth fighters. Tongue

Personally, I think HAWX is a really [Removed] name......OOOH, IS LIKE BIRDIES, PLANES FLY, LIKE HAWXXSS!!!!!

Talk about [Removed], Tom Clancy's Air Combat sounded better.

Doesn't bother me if there are plenty of difficulty settings: arcade-like with unlimited weapons/fuel, time skipping to waypoints to a sim setting with realistic loadouts and fuel management (drop tanks etc) and using autopilot instead of time skipping. That way we get the msot out of the game and you can play it how it suits your mood.

Personally I thought the level of realism was just right. There were some things that really need work though. For one it seemed like in over G your wing man didnt do much to help you. SP was good just the story line and stuff was lacking. The MP was fun but lacking, it seemed like there was only one game type that was good but you hardly ever got into a dog fight with anouther person, and the arena game type would only last a few seconds it seemed like for me.

I just hope they make the game like over G fighters except with more game types and better story.

Also I read in Game in Former that there will be MP co-op. That is all they said about the MP though, they said they are keeping it under wraps.

In my opinion; -if you turn off all the computer assist they say is in the game, you should have to use the display on the instrument panel to actually navigate to your objectives, runway, rendevous, ect... there should be no big colourful/flashing/waypoint arrow in the sky to show you what to bomb/lock/shoot or where to go.

That is something that really annoys me about the "Ubisoft" in TomClancy games nowadays, they love to kill the immersion to pander to the ADD crowd and 'casual' gamer.

i'm a man of "options"
HAWX should have the option to toggle on/off "arcade and Sim"
bingo, everyone is content

I've had Over G since it came out and I will likely still have it even when HAWX comes out.

It's not the best looking or sounding flight game on the market, sure, but it delivers in long-term fun because its flight model is so well tuned.

I can get my Dad (who hates videogames) to watch Over G replays of some killer aircraft carrier landings, etc. He builds remote control planes as a hobby and has been able to learn to play Over-G since the Radio Controller has similar thumbsticks for aircraft control.

Anyway - if I can play HAWX and get the same sim-challenge and freedom (carrier landings, non-combat flight, Strike-mode, Arena) that I have with Over-G, I'll be impressed. Oh and if I can get the old man to play it too, I'll be happy.

Good luck HAWX you've got the brand name to give you the polish that poor old Over-G couldn't have - but will you be worth getting back into the cockpit with years after you've been out?

I'm anxiously awaiting a flight test.
