This poll is very simple. Sim or Arcade.

Question:
Should HAWX be a sim, or an arcade?

Choices:
Simulator (I don't want missles to reappear on my wing)
Arcade ( I want missles to reappear on my wing)

I'm pretty sure they've already decided what the game is going to be. Read the press release and this is the impression I get:

"So easy a Caveman can do it!"

That just leads me to believe it will be more aracade like then sim-like. Which is ok. I wish it would have more realistic elements in though. I don't really want to play a hardcore sim myself but I do like normal roll and pull type flying, realistic loadouts, even if it's not completely realistic targeting and physics.

No offense, but maybe you should re-read the press release. It clearly states that it comes with a system that makes the game very easy (arcade'ish), however the player will be able to deactivate that system which will give him more freedom but will also make it more difficult (sim'ish) for him. It certainly won't be a hardcore flight sim like IL2 or Lock On, but it also won't be purely arcade'ish - rather something in between (and with an option to make it even more realistic - I'd wish more games would have that). Wink2

Besides, I don't think a caveman would even know what an afterburner is! Big Grin

Darn it.....I would really love it if SOMEONE came out with a good Modern Flight Combat sim.....seriously, the newest one is Lock On! And Lock On seriously sucks. Sure, its got the greatest realism of a modern combat flight sim out there, but THERES ONLY ABOUT 5 PLANES! Of which only 2 are American! And, its about 6 years old! Bad graphics. This game has got the graphics aspect covered by far- I just hope it gives great realism and real challenge, like Lock On. It's much more satisfying getting a kill through skill than through pure luck....

Is this what you are referring to?
quote:
If the situation calls for the player to unleash the full potential of the aircraft, the assistance mode can be switched off and all safety features will be deactivated. This comes with increased risks, but allows the player advanced dogfighting maneuvers and stunning third-person views.

That's hardly an endoresment that it will be any less arcade like. Not that I mind arcade like, but I want to see some realistic aspects.

The press release is all fluff to me. Anyone can write about a never before seen game and make it sound amazing. But just the mere fact that they are going for cross-com in the sky is enough to tell me where their minds are at. Planes are already cross-com in the sky. That essentially what an F-22 is all about. Passing off targets to wingmen, etc. I just think it's funny how they think they are bringing GRAW to the air when it's the other way around. GRAW brought aircraft HUDS to the ground in a way.

Anyway. I just don't have faith in them is all when it comes to certain aspects, so telling me to be a better reader isn't going to change that. You should just point out what you're saying next time, you'll come off as less condescending. It's all speculation anyway. No one knows what it will be like and the press release is no better then vapor ware to me, they write those things to make pressing the A button sound like you've gone through Fighter Weapons School(now Weapons School, aka AirForce TopGun) and know every aspect of the performance of an Aim9 Sidewinder in and out.

I'll give it a chance and most likely play it but the early info isn't so appealling to me. I loved AC6 actually. Just would have liked to see a little more depth in the missions and kill ratio because you carry 100+ ordanance.

I actually do want a cross between hardcore sim and arcade. More along the lines of "lite" sim, I guess. I thought the poll options were too polarizing(no pun intended).

No one can tell me we're going to get that in HAWX. I'll believe it when I see it/play it.

And they seem to go the way of AC6 only with more realism (as you'd expect from a Clancy game). Wink2

My hopes and my expecations aren't in line, but I hope you're right. Be nice to get some more info on this game too.

One thing is definately bothering me... they say this game will be released this fall, yet it's just announced and next to no information has been given?? I think the next news we'll hear is that the game has been delayed for 6 months to a year- as per nearly all of Ubi's TomClancy games.

I'm hoping it leans more towards realism Smile

I would like to see realistic loadouts as opposed to the ones in Ace Combat, like a lot of people do, along with that...I would like one shot missile kills as opposed to what is in Ace Combat. Big Grin

I guess I lean more towards realism then.

I'd like a lean toward realism, but not so far that it takes me an hour to figure out how to take off safely.

Yeah i don't want it to be that sim. The amount of simulation in OGF is plenty for me to still have fun with the game.

I was just checking out some gameplay footage of OverG Fighters. Not as pretty as AC6, but I like what they are doing. It's more "lite" sim that I'm hoping for. Can't tell if the munitions are unlimited or what though. Even though I love AC6, I think OGF is more along the lines of what I'd like to see out of HAWX.

But it was announced under the working title Tom Clancy's Air Combat in September '07 I believe. This is just the first official announcement with the new name HAWX. I prefer a 6 month announcement, like with Vegas 2, vs an early announcement and no set release window.

Well we've known for a while that Ubi were planning on making a Tom Clancy Air Combat game and they've had several possible titles already copyrighted so it's been around for longer than you think.
