well i finally got my lazy arse to get HAWX. i love the game, even if its not as popular as many other games. its got an element of freestyle 'fun' i enjoy.
my question seems simple enough: I need a recommendation for a new controller. How does HAWX respond with controllers? is it better to use a controller for the PC version, or a keyboard? if the answer is "controller" can someone please make some recommendations for joysticks, etc. - many of the ratings on newegg are contradictory. thanks! |

i usually use assistance-off mode, even if its not the most realistic mode of flying
i considered a 360 controller...i did own a 360 once, and i used the controller for my PC more than the 360 itself heheh. i'll check the local prices tomorrow for controllers..compare etc. im definitely not spending 100 bucks on one though. --- --- --- --- "...for in such dangerous things as War, the errors proceeding from a sense of benevolence are the worst."-Carl Phillip Von Clausewitz, Vom Kriege |

Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X joystick works great for me. It even has a default setup for HAWX - $38 on buy.com

I love off-mode for all the unbelievable reality-defying tricks I can pull off, and 2 of the best HAWX pilots that I know use an XBox360 Controller on their PCs. |

A friend and I both use Logitech Extreme 3D Pro flightsticks. We've had them for 4 or 5 years and they still rock. He actually wore his out recently and bought another just like it. One of the PC gaming mags rated the best a few years ago. I think it was Computer Gaming World? Can't remember. They're called Games for Windows now. The price has dropped on the flightstick to like just over $20 USD. I even got me another because it's such an excellent input device for this kind of game.

Personally, I would buy the Thrustmaster T.16000m, if it wasn't so hard to find by over here. For now, I playing with a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro.

I usually use a joystick for flight games, but for this I use my Logitech Cordless RumblePad 2. The analog sticks are also buttons 11 and 12.

I think I'm gonna pull out the Visa for a new Saitek X-52 Pro. With all the features on it, I will be able to do EVERYTHING from the controller short of flipping off my opponents when I go inverted...

well i went to get a controller today - i decided on going back to my old favorite, the xbox 360 controller, since im familiar with its use.
went to gamestop in town - a 12 mile drive just to get there - bought a used controller, brought it back and found out...he handed me a wireless 360 controller... i cant use it. bastard, thats like 2 gallons of gas total just to pick up somethin that wont work. so i gotta go back tomorrow and exchange it...in fact i might just drop the whole controller thing, because there's not enough players to warrant spending money on that(i'm very broke atm). baad day. |

I'd be telling the d****** at the store he owes you for the gas too because you did not ask for wireless, and thats what he gives you. Basically, it's his ignorance (an extremely clean version of how I wanted to describe that d****** @ gamestop) that caused you to waste all that gas.
O_O Two gallons of gas for a total of 24 miles!?! What the hell you driving? |

i drive this: http://i271.photobucket.com/al...rdian/mycadillac.jpg its got a HO 350 in it, which has proven extremely reliable - but it sucks fuel like an F4. and yea, it is his fault - but unless i go up there and make a complete *** of myself and a big stink about it, nothing will be done. i am allowed to take it back, but i also think he owes me for gas. i dont live right next to the place - i live out on the takeoff end of the flightline. theres nothing around here. |

Nice! I could build an engine for it that puts some serious torque to the ground while averaging over 25mpg

when i built the engine with a former in-law of mine, gas was still cheap. i've had the car since 2000. i havent had the money to get anything more efficient without worrying that it'll be a lemon. i *know* this car, because i helped put together most of the drivetrain...and i'm used to every wierd little noise it makes.
dont screw up a good thing, i say. |

I've always said, if you have a good thing, you can always make it a better thing. Granted, the build-up on the engine would cost some money, but it would be virtually bulletproof reliability-wise and decient on gas. This of course is if you do not mind fuel injection. I would be hard pressed to get the same milage from a carburated engine because there would be no way to to make it a variable displacement job. If you like, just as a fun project, I could design on paper a good build. I just would need to know what power level you would like. I could even do it carburated, but it would not be as efficient.
