I know my review of the game isn't too important to most, but I feel like typing it out anyways.

So I went to EB Games today, hoping to find a flight game that could come close to Ace Combat. I bought Blazing Angels a long time ago for my PS3, and whaaaaaat a disappointment. I thought PS3 was doomed for flying games.

Then I pick up HAWX. The cover looked sweet, the info looked interesting, so I asked the guys at the store about it. All they could say was "It's alright"... Talk about promotion.

Then I get home, and I haven't been able to put the game down since. WOW! Thanks Ubisoft for saving the PS3 from being doomed to horrid flight games. Takeoff and landing sequences would be a sweet addition, but seriously people, if you're buying an airplane shoot 'em up style game, why are you so concerned about the boring *** takeoff and landings? This game is EVERYTHING I was looking for in a flight game... fly around, shoot some stuff, fly around more, and blow some stuff up. Sweeeeeet....

I was pretty hesitant about buying another Tom Clancy title, the Ghost Recon series has been disappointing (sorry) compared to other FPS titles of the same genre (i Can't mentiOn names kinDa...). The gameplay in HAWX is fluid, nothing is glitching on me, and best of all, there's actually an interesting storyline to go along with it. I hope there's plans for a HAWX 2 in the works, because I'll definitely pick that up.

As far as my recomendations go, I would love to see a tie-in with other Ubisoft games (Ghost Recon) where owning both titles gives you bonuses, such as Socom did with their PS3 and PSP versions. It would definitely get me more into Ghost Recon (assuming the gameplay were to change), and be kind of a sweet way to intertwine the series together.

But anyways, those are my thoughts. Congrats to the developers, and the rest of the staff at Ubisoft, this game is unreal!

Thanks!

Hey.

I too would be a much happier camper if other companies looked into making modern flight action games, specifically for the PS3.

What are your thoughts on assistance off?

Which is your favorite mission?

Other than the fact that Hawx (being a PS3 modern flight action game) exists; what part of your piloting time have you most enjoyed?

Care to leave your thoughts on All Aspect Missiles in the recent thread "Nerf..."?

I'm not a big fan on assistance off, the view is kinda confusing, so i avoid it at all costs. It kinda takes the realism out of it by switching views. If they left it as the cockpit view then it'd be an amazing feature.

So far I don't really have a favorite mission, to be honest I'm pretty big on all of them.

Best part of the piloting time so far is the air to air combat. The other fighters are hard enough to actually make it a challenge, unlike other games where it's just a matter of hitting the airbrakes and going in circles

I'll check that other thread out

If you just want of air combat do Red Eagle over Washington DC. You jump into action immediately without having to go to a way point. If you are in coop mode online and allow the green forces near the end of the session to be overwhelmed by too many ground and air targets, you can get the online game locked into a never ending loop of respawing aircraft to shoot down. Net results are 10000 points/hour using a plane with 52 MTAA or 12000 points/hour using a Eurofighter Typhoon (60 MTAA) or A6A (72 MTAA).

Other ones good for air combat include Typhoon over Japan and Iron Arrow over Chicago, but you can't lock these into never ending mode.

Other than that, TDM is a lot harder than shooting at campaign AI planes.

happy you enjoy the game. you might get used to assistance-off mode; i play the PC version, not a console version, so i dont know if that makes it easier for me or maybe the other way around, but it was exactly what i was looking for too. quick into the game, quick gameplay, and quick exit. just what i need.
welcome to HAWX! Smile

Well I just finished the campaign, and I'm still amazed at how well put together this game was. From start to finish, very nicely done. After thinking about it for a bit, takeoffs and landings would be pretty sweet, but it's not really necessary. Cockpit view in assistance off would be sweet too, but again, not really that big of a deal. I think I'm gonna go through the campaign a couple more times before I even attempt to try playing against others online, simply for the fact that people are alot harder to shoot down than dummy AI planes Big Grin

It took me awhile to find a game that could even come close to Ace Combat, and maaaaaan did I find it. The only thing I was a little disappointed about was not getting a made-up plane after finishing the campaign, like Ace Combat has. Seriously, airplanes with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads?

Okay, that's best done in the doctor evil voice, but you get the point. Even if these planes are only available in offline mode, it'd still be pretty amazing. Other than that, the replay value of this game is huuuuuuuge, the XP system makes me want to play over and over again to try to unlock new planes, and the gameplay is such that I can keep interest without getting bored of missions.

Again, congrats to Ubisoft on an amaing title.

P.S. Has anyone else noticed that Ubisoft has the sweetest intro at the beginning of the game? There should be an award, dammit.

cuzicantstop have you played with any of the custom planes and unlocked planes from kaisa226 "newplanes pack v13" available here?

We won't tell you whats in here, but there are some REAL treats that will make you go WOW!

Also there are loads of cool skins to swop the boring in game ones with. Maybe this can give you the extra planes fix you are after.

I play the ps3 version, so I don't know if there's too much in the way of extra planes and what not for it, or at least for free hahaha

I'm a broke *** college student, buying this game spent my weekly entertainment budget as it is.

The 3rd person camera in the Assistance Off mode should be an option. The game play is fast and fun. If there is an update that will allow 1st person view then I will buy this game for sure. It looks great.
