Some good news is that we're not going to see hundreds of missiles flying out ala AC:6.
Looks like previewers are saying it less "arcadey" than AC:6, that's good to hear.

A few of the questions from the long list answered:
quote:
We played our first HAWX mission using a standard controller. For 360 owners, the Ace Combat flight stick will work with HAWX and most standard PC flight sticks should be compatible for those who own a computer. If you don't have a flight stick yet, don't worry. Ubisoft is working to release a proprietary stick for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in time for HAWX's launch.

We should mention that as a final safety measure, you can drop one of a limited number of flares to guide the heat-seeker away from your plane.
quote:
You can also switch to a special missile volley. The ammo is limited here, but allows you to target multiple enemies at once.

Though Ubisoft assures there is plenty of "arcade" to go with the simulation aspects, this is certainly a more serious endeavor than Ace Combat. You probably won't fight any giant floating battle stations. Instead, you'll have to worry about a sky full of planes piloted by aggressive AI. We can't wait to take them on.
its gonna be amazing to see Ubisoft Romania please everybody (casual players and hard core simulator addicts) but thats if and only if after reading that review i can only hope its as good as it sounds, so complex, so dynamic.

Therein lies the problem. I don't think one can please both mindsets. The more arcade-y you make it, you lose the hardcore simmers. The more realistic you make it, the more likely a lot of folks are to get frustrated with the difficulty and give up. Options can help, but like I said eleswhere, the mindset that the game is created with will show through, no matter what you can adjust from a menu.

The thing that bothers me is there's no mention of a cockpit view or a first person HUD view, only a close chase view and a far chase view, total B.S.!
Then there's the lame radar, and how do you double tap the AfterBurner or AirBrake with the Ace Edge HOTAS throttle??
"Switching between assistance on and off became second nature within the first five minutes of dog fighting. We found it easiest to fly with assistance off, turning it on when the target was near as the camera view gives a far better perspective for targeting. Flying an F-22, we had the choice of cannons -- which were fairly useless in this scenario -- and heat seekers. Two missiles were enough to take out any enemy. And locking on was easy enough. You just need to cycle through targets with the press of a button and once you are close enough, the target icon turns red. Pop off two missiles and usually that's that. You can also switch to a special missile volley. The ammo is limited here, but allows you to target multiple enemies at once. And since the bombers fly in a quartet, this weapon option becomes a big help."
This game is gonna blow.
"Our time with HAWX was brief, but showed considerable promise. What simulation aspects are they talking about? So far, no mention of a cockpit view. Then they talk about with the noob stuff turned off your plane is far away fromt he camera? WTF? Have UBISOFT gone retarded? How about with the assistance junk turned off we go back into cockpit view, and have an option in the menu to never be able to use ERS or assistance in the game? That way if I want to double tap my thrust to get the right speed I want, I don't go into some bullsh*t third person view.
Ubisoft, I swear, ever since you guys bought the Tom Clancy name, you people have drug it through the mud. I guess all you do care about is the money, and not making a good product.
If HAWK has only chase views, like Blazing Angels 1, I hope they at least show your parachute canopy entangled in your jets tail fins and you being dragged around by your harness controlling everything with a remote.

Many on it mentioned is great. But, why you need to fire two missiles to take down an aircraft? That is what I refer to arcade mode. Why two missiles for one enemy? In this I want that look like in real situation, "do not fire until you see that is clear and secure that the missile gone to make it's work". Of curse, that's if your enemy don't use shaft or flears wisely for more tense situation.

The only Promising statement in the whole thing was also laced with the words "plenty of arcade."
Sounds worse then Ace Combat to me, but you never really know until you jump in. No mention of actually flying from the HUD or cockpit is bad news to me. Sounds like they are designing the game around 3rd person close and far, much the way Graw uses 3rd person and 3rd person cover.
3rd person games are fine, I don't have anythng against them, just was hoping this would be different. Sounds like you have to use their 3rd person design if you want to survive their difficulty settings, and games are known for making things artificially difficult.
Jesus Christ, is Ubisoft insane? where did they do their research on the jets? preschool???? I have never heard anything as preposterous as a harrier with an afterburner. This almost makes me want to make sick on myself just so I can do it again. With afterburning tails that big, the nozzles should melt themselves off withing 2 seconds of using the burner. I mean, those nozzles are not F-35 casings and will not withstand the heat. I can't believe that they would do this. as a defining factor in life, Ubisoft, you just lost one more customer with those afterburners.
Besides that, Ubisoft, how can we make this any clearer? we want cockpit views and realistic missiles, none of these special/retarded missiles, or this DRS junk.
P.S. oh, out of respect, it should have been ERS, not DRS, but who knows, decreased reality system sounds like a more accurate interpretation to me.

WTF? Maybe that's something else like hit points or something. Could be 24 missiles (still silly, but I can live with that number better) and 2 flares, 175HP on the plane. Could be that different weapons hitting different areas do varying amounts of damage.
