I haven't played many 'flight' games but have come across a few different control schemes. Eg Dropship United Peace Force (hover and flight modes) used X and [] for thrust, Heatseeker used R3 for thrust and Ace Combat uses R1 and L1. I liked the Heatseeker control the most, followed by Dropship - I don't like the Ace controls - what do you think?

I personally can't stand the AC6 throttle controls. I want to be able to do like in OGF (or real life) push the throttle forward/back and set it at whatever power setting I want. I don't want to have essentially 3 throttle positions: idle, mid-range, and max A/B. I'm the pilot, I want to have as much control over what the plane is doing as possible.

I'm fine with OGF controls. I agree, AC6 needed a "set-able" throttle. I don't like that default to middle-ground deal. One reason I wish I'd gotten the flight stick set with it.
OGF controls would be great, but I'd like more targeting options than just the d-pad right to cycle through. Need "target enemy under reticule" and "target nearest enemy" options and we're good to go. |

If you have even a little fine motor control you can feather the trigger to get the amount of thrust you want for the situation. |

Well, I got used to playing OGF first, where the buttons for rudders and throttle were flipped. And anyway I'd prefer to use my "even a little fine motor control" over the rudder pedals, jackass.

I'd rather use the shoulder buttons for thrust, and the triggers for rudder. OGF did well with that. Didn't like having to use the triggers to control thrust in AC6.

You don't have to, you just use a different setting in the options. I play it like that since it's very close to OGF this way.

Yeah except the problem with AC6 was that you couldn't set the speed and leave it. Once you let go of the thrust it reset to a default speed. OGF let you set it, leave it, and change it when you needed to. Not sure if when you switched the control settings to RB/LB=thrust, if it reset like it did when thrust was controlled by the triggers, but I think it did. |

Yeah, couldn't get away from that, unfortunately.

With the HOTAS flight controls for Ace Combat, you can set the throttle however you want. There might even be an option for it. There is on Project Sylpheed. |

Well, that's not something I felt like investing in, and in any event, OGF solved that issue without requiring anyone buy a peripheral device. Why couldn't Ace 6? Anytime, Baby! |

More than likely, because Ace Combat has never played like anything besides Ace Combat. They have kept their gameplay pretty much the same as it was back in Air Combat. |

Again, the answer seems to be: well, it's always been that way. Why can't things be changed?

Because it doesn't need to be, it came from Sony's platforms which always had two analog shoulder buttons for each side instead of a Trigger/Bumper setup. Don't blame Project ACES for Microsoft's poor controller design. |

360 design is perfect.
