I don't think anyone ever said that most, or even many people like off mode. I have never intended to imply that it is popular and everyone uses it.

Smoke flies in off mode, and is fine with the camera just the way it is.

I really think the camera is what makes off mode work. Your jet will fly differently with the same player commands depending on where the camera is. Off mode is a complete user interface more than a camera view. I don't think it could work if there were any other camera view.

Iamkfan...

This game you speak of, I've looked into it slightly. It appears to be a WWII game. That generally means no missiles, so I won't be getting it probably. Unless, I'm wrong. If there is a demo, I will be sure to download it though.

I like it more, now, than I did when I first got HAWX but more camera options wouldn't hurt anyone that wanted it the way it is now, they just wouldn't USE the new camera options.

That said, it's not going to happen, imo...

I really think a different camera option would have to mean a whole different interface system, because the camera does play some role in how your jet moves in off mode.

I have read a number of times here about how people would like more camera modes in off mode; I'm curious as to what people are talking about. I'd appreciate it if anyone wanted to give a decently specific description of what camera modes they'd like.

They're talking about 3rd person, cockpit and the 1st person camera views, just like assistance-on views. I'm not against adding more options. Those that like it, as is, wouldn't have to use them but ubisoft has every right to reject the idea too...

That's tarded. Assistance off mode is meant to let you see the area around your jet better so you can better calculate where your enemy will be when you are ready to fire upon them. One would not be able to see around their jet at all if they were inside of it.

The thought of playing in assistance off mode, but in first person just hurts my brain. Come on people. It would be like god (lol) is whipping you around by your tail, but you are invisible so it's okay. Haha.

Whether or not you agree doesn't mean others wouldn't prefer it. A kulbit, for example, wouldn't look impressive in other views either but a lot of the flight sim fans (and some others) still want other views. The reason the off view is what it is, is for cinematic presentation...

And it really does look quite beautiful.

Come on Konami, EA, Square, Sony, Criterion, Activision, Capcom, Sega, Lucas Arts, etc.; if Ubi can jump into the Flight Action genre and sell a lot of freaken games, why haven't any of you capitalized on our starvation?

Think about Lucas Arts, a Star Wars based jet fighter similar to what we have, but in space or Star Wars planets and with Star Wars fighters. This game probably exists, but not on the PS3, and not to the specific genre of Hawx and AC titles.

@Landon...

Yeah it's WWII... Won't have anything approaching the assistance off camera view though either...

The major premise of the game is that theres not much "assitance" at all in those old fighters. It's a 1st for consoles, looks to be a major step away from the arcade fodder we've gotten on the PS3.

I personally am looking forward to some of the more intelligent design elements like dynamic damage modelling...

The developer is very active on their forum, pretty nice example of modern day communication.

yes, the reason i HATE cockpit view... i can't see squat! even how close to the ground/water i am when i'm doing low-level flying, and if a small obstacle pops up, i won't be able to see it... unlike real life where i can turn my head, you can't effectively change viewing directions in cockpit... the view is blocked to 1/4 a sphere

however, the point about "calculating the best way to attack an opponent" is not exactly true, that can be done by 3rd person view and target cam... which i use a lot, because it's done simply by holding the "change target" key which is easily done, and the camera stays on target ALL THE TIME, while it doesn't work on HUD and cockpit views as well...

assistance off like master_cylinder said is mainly for cinematic purposes, and i use it mainly for that as well... when i try to do "cool" aerial maneuvers and stuff, it looks a lot cooler than the eye dizzying first person view... which i'm not a big fan of... and i ALWAYS wonder how it would look outside...

oh and don't forget assistance off gives planes more agility *which could kill the pilot... so i guess they put the pilot a mile away remote controlling the plane by the press of a button? =b pretty awesome!*

Exactly...

The "off" camera view is for cinematic presentation and the "off" *mode* (not the view) is for agility.

I prefer "on" but after completing the "X number of off-kills" challenge almost entirely using the "off-certification" mission (over and over) it's not as bad as I thought it was when I first started playing HAWX. It does come in handy sometimes but it's certainly not required with the exception of one mission and some challenges...
