This game seems to strive for realism. So why on earth would they take you out of your plane?? I can understand the concept of Assistance Off, but taking the pilot out of his plane just ruins the game completely. I really wish there was an Ace Combat game for the PS3....

It's not about realism, the assistance off camera view is about the cinematic presentation and it's not all that bad once you get used to it...

That said, a *lot* of people would like alternative views for off mode but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Don't we all, but remember the 3rd person view in assistance on and ace combat also takes you outside the plane.
apparently this game isn't supposed to be realistic, its been labelled an 'arcade flight game' or something like that.

another one of these threads... when will these end?

ohwait it won't... not until ubi changes it...
at least this one took a couple weeks to come out again...

and like many said before... it ruins it for you doedsn't mean it ruins it for everyone... okay it ruins it for a lot of players actually... but not ALL players...

besides, you can CHOOSE not to use it... except on 1 mission, and you can still play the game with almost 0 handicap

I simply don't use it or use it rarely under special conditions. It's a bit sad, I personally think it would rock with the normal 3rd person view.

But the point is if it was normal third person view then why would anyone use assistance on mode when it would be exactly the same as off mode but your plane was less manuevable.

You don't always need that much maneuverability. For example, if you want to correct your aim with guns, you don't want your plane to do a 180 turn simply because you turn a little.

that's what joysticks are for...

move a little bit, and it'll turn a little bit...

i see people in assistance off aim perfectly well with one

Even with joystick, assistance off is not as precise than assistance on, especially on planes with trust vectoring. If you don't find any difference or can easily deal with that difference, good for you. I still think assistance off should have simply be a switch that changes the behavior of the plane and not force a new view upon the pilot.

As you said, we can choose "not to use it", well why not have the option to choose "how to use it". Giving more options to the players will fit the needs of more players.

Because that's not the way they designed it.

I agree, more options is always better for more people but I still wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it. Maybe HAWX 2 (if there is going to be one) might have different options but it doesn't look like they plan on adding features to this one based on the first two patches...

Yup, I'm fully aware that they will most likely not implement it. I think the only feature they added was the ability to change the dead zone and sensibility of the mouse/joystick.

vint:

on and off modes are not the same, even if you are outside the jet in both.

On mode puts the camera behind you, so you can move it freely by moving the jet, and looking around. It's basically Ace Combat, with the three view modes.

Off mode follows (mostly) a vector of player to jet to target.

About it ruining the game, well when I hear green Day or Nirvana on the radio, I just turn the station, I don't think they ruin the radio.

Too Happy Realistic visuals perhaps but everything else... If you want realism, stick with flight sims like Lock On: Modern Air Combat. HAWX is arcade action through and through.

I also hated the Off camera at first, but once I got the hang of it, man, it is fun to use and in multiplayer it's a must.
