i had a 360 before - it died twice, finally i got a refund and said **** microsoft. i've always been a pc gamer since the earliest console-text-based adventure games. i like to consoladate most appliances into a single device, so i do everything but cook food with my pc.
which might be possible with this overclocked quad-core opteron if i turned the watercooling setup off.. --- --- --- --- "...for in such dangerous things as War, the errors proceeding from a sense of benevolence are the worst."-Carl Phillip Von Clausewitz, Vom Kriege |

I hear you. 5 RROD's changed my tune on all things MS for good. Went to the PS3 and they have been running strong since. PC's for me, are for work. Not gaming. |

I looked at IL-2 and decided it wasn't for me. I tend to avoid games based in the past, even with shooters too. Don't get me wrong, if the graphics looked like PONG era or even Quake era graphics *that* would be an issue, I just don't care if all of the rivets are in the right place, in the right quantity or other unimportant minutia. Of course they're important to some people, I just don't have that problem. Well, people said the same thing before the second patch came out too. I didn't have "proof" then and I have none now but they sold a lot of copies and probably a lot of DLC to the console crowd, they know we still have some persistent and important bugs that need to be fixed, especially in multi-player, so I'd expect one or two more patches and that's about it. I'm still not predicting HAWX 2 but I'd certainly look at it if they make it.
Who? Maybe you should join a different camp? If expectations are "too high" the odds of failure increase and by your own hand no less. ... Fun, indeed... PC too... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It's amazing how much panic one honest man can spread among a multitude of hypocrites." -- Thomas Sowell |

It's to bad you don't give historical games a chance. On another note, I will be picking up IL-2 today, and unfortunately, HAWX will be used as trade in credit (I got the platinum trophy). I am looking forward to it. I might be mistaken, but IL-2 has 2 to 3 times the missions as HAWX, and that's my cup of tea. You might be right about the PC end of things, but I believe Ubisoft will revert to type. The console game is officially done, and I expect an announcement of HAWX 2 sometime early 2010. Well, I figure since I, the consumer, have a right to expect better. Especially since it's my hard earned 60 bucks that I chose to spend on a Ubisoft product. So, thanks for the "suggestion", but I like where my tent is now. |

Yeah, more missions is a good thing but it's not enough to make me want to play it. Again, subjective... Why do non-official people even try to make "official" statements? There may well be a HAWX 2 but there was supposed to be a Duke Nukem Forever too so, I'll wait for something a bit more "official." As a consumer you can choose to buy something or choose not to buy whatever but it's completely up to ubisoft to make their game however they want and while you may "have a right to expect" anything you want, you don't have the right to get something just because you want it or because some "other" game did something else. That would be unrealistic, imo... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It's amazing how much panic one honest man can spread among a multitude of hypocrites." -- Thomas Sowell |

The reason that it seems like Hawx could use more missions is because they are too similar. Hawx missions are destroy enemies before they can fire on:
The Ghosts, the refinery, bomber Drake, chopper team Skyhound, the USS James Lawrence battle group, bomber squad Gargoyle, AF-1, AWACS Citadel, the Andrew Jackson Carrier battle group, the shuttle, and AWACS Citadel again. I don't want more missions, I want better ones. Smoke, Ldogg |

For me, more missions is about flying different planes, in different surroundings. HAWX really didn't offer enough singleplayer missions, and that my man, is not subjective. There was plenty of other source material in the game that I can think of right now, and list. "Non-official" folks like myself use common sense. I urge you to take a look at Ubisoft's track record with this kind of thing. My guess is, you have NOT. My personal experience with Ubisoft on the console tells me the PS3/360 users will not see another patch. Blazing Angels on the consoles is my reference. I hope this clears things up for you. Being how you self admitted that you are new to the action/flight genre AND a PC gamer, you'll probably not bother. Speaking of PS3/PC/360 gamers... Why does Ubisoft not have a seperate section for each? A console player's issues will NOT be the same a PC user. Correct? As you have pointed out, HAWX did sell a million copies of the game, so it's not that hard to believe HAWX 2 will come out. But hey, maybe Ubisoft realised that a MAJORITY (IE - Not you) are a picky sort, and may shy away from a sequel. I hope they don't. I buy all flight games pretty much, so the more the merrier. Unrealistic to you. To me, who has owned and operated a business for 6 years UNDERSTANDS that customers will ALWAYS have DIFFERENT opinions then me. I then make it my job to conform to their needs, being how they are spending money on my service. Buying a video game is no different when you use business sense. |

Actually, "enough" could be subjective too. I've played games with fewer levels. I've only played a handful of other ubisoft games and most had more than two patches. I really have no interest in consoles but I still believe we'll see one or two more patches that will be real bug fixes not added features, rivets, etc... There was a separate bug report thread once but separate sections isn't a bad idea, for various reasons... It's not hard to believe that HAWX 2 is possible, but it's not even been announced so I'll take the wait and see route rather than the expectations and disappointment route. I'm not sure that the "picky sort" are the majority, a lot of players don't even post here. The majority might not even join, if they are happy with HAWX and not having major issues. You're not the only self-employed person on these forums, max. The saying is "the customer is always right" but everyone knows that is just a saying and also not really based on reality. I've found tactful ways of dealing with clients but that doesn't make them right just because they pay. Clients can often have unrealistic expectations too but that's what contracts are for; they protect both parties. Buying a video game doesn't give you the right to get whatever changes you think you deserve. You paid for an arcade flight game and you got one. That you had other expectations doesn't change the fact that HAWX is as ubisoft designed it to be...and that's OK too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It's amazing how much panic one honest man can spread among a multitude of hypocrites." -- Thomas Sowell |

Actually, socialism is slavery and capitalism is freedom but that's another subject.
I do like Clausewitz though... "The fact that slaughter [battle] is a horrifying spectacle must make us take war more seriously, but [it does] not provide an excuse for gradually blunting our swords in the name of humanity. Sooner or later someone will come along with a sharp sword and hack off our arms." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It's amazing how much panic one honest man can spread among a multitude of hypocrites." -- Thomas Sowell |
