Math sux in general.

Pssh. It happens to be my best and favorite subject Razz

Although I do have to admit that some of it is pretty pointless in life unless you wanna be an architect or something.

I noticed no one has yet congratulated TMGB.

Its very respectable to admit you made a mistake by dropping out and getting your GED to continue your education.

Good job man Thumbs Up

Way back when some 30 years ago, I decided after getting the required credits in math for my high school diploma, I stopped taking math. Boy was that a big mistake. Darn near every job I have ever had required or requires math skills. For carpentry, you need to be able to figure out area and the like. Auto mechanics need to be able to convert inches to millimeters and vice versa amongst other things. In my current job, one needs to be able to figure the distance one needs to be from a radioactive source to be safe from taking to big a shot of radioactivity using the inverse square law. Trust me when I say that you may hate math, but I am telling ya to take as much as you can. You never know what you might need to do that requires math one day.

VTAssault, if you really want to become a game developer, start playing PC games and creating mods. Learn 3dSM or Unreal Ed (both work the same. More modders get hired by development studios than those right out of college. Serellan, GRIN_Wolfsong, Snowfella and Beepo to name a few are now employed by game developers. Learn Photoshop and skin characters or models that you have created the textures for. There are some free 3d model programs available like GMax (used for Flight Simulator) and Blender.

WK, two things.

First, I long ago (at least 6 months) gave up being a game developer, I didnt have the attention span to become a programmer like I wanted. But I do know that I want to be a Systems Administrator (My highschool administrator was an awesome guy, my dad is one... I have the extra help all laid out).

Second, Do you ever use logarithmic equations in your line of duty? Can you tell me anyone who does (in a line of profession not directly involving math, like a phycisist or scientist.)
Im not saying math it useless (except maybe the higher stuff for common everday people), im just saying its damn hard for me.

WTF. You're saying you have troubles with simple multiplication? I believe we learn converting stuff around 8-9 years old and area of a triangle at 12. Wouldn't call that "skills". Just 'basic stuff'.

If you want the area of harder polygons and circle-like shapes, ok... that's tougher. Nothing that integration (dunno the English word. Opposite of derivative) with some transforms can't fix.

I couldn't tell you if I use logarithmic functions in my line of work. I really don't know what they are outside of being above the kind of math I took. I only went as far as pre-algrebra while I was in school and since I didn't finish my degree, I didn't even get to learn what plane and solid geometry is.

I can do simple math of course, it's the other math that I don't understand. While I have the formula on how to figure out the cubic inches of a cylinder (as in a car engine) at home, I couldn't tell you how to figure it out otherwise.

VT, I was just suggesting a way to possibly break into the game development. There is a high demand for quality developers.

Yeah, I get what your saying WK its just that its hard to become a quality developer in the market right now, because there are so many smaller places that higher, put out bad games, and go under. The big places are nigh impossible to get your foot in the door without some sort of help. I would just rather do something else, plus I dont really have the game developer skills at least hardware/software wise.

As for math, Im just pointing out that some of the higher stuff NEVER gets used in 95% of peoples jobs and the fact that it is mandatory for graduation is a joke.

Another GEDer over here!

I got mine when I was like... 16 or just turned 17, one of the other. I was homeschooled, got the GED so I could start college right away. However, because of moving and transferring credits (or lack of classes transferring for no good reason), I've been in college for four years and am just now finishing up my Associate's degree. Too Happy

What's it like being homeschooled? I've always wondered about that. Who teaches you and how much freedom do you have? o.O

your parents teach you and you have no life cause you're home all the time instead of at school then you end up with a bf/gf over the internet and then you usually end up getting a GED instead of a high school diploma not that I really know anything about that Shady
