I've played accoustic for almost 10 years now, but I'm getting my electric guitar in the mail either today or tomorrow, and I'm anxious to learn it.
Having that said, what are your recommendations? I've looked on google and I keep seeing Purple Haze or Iron Man, but I would much rather learn a newer song than that. Any suggestions and a link to some tabs to go with it? I'd really appreciate it. |

What type of music counts as "newer?" I suggest you just google tabs and see what sites you like.

I'm not sure how much newer you're looking to go, but Scorpions' Rock You Like A Hurricane is a good early song to learn on the electric in regards to using your basic technique of power chords & palm muting. My teacher taught me that in my first guitar lesson, along with Enter Sandman & the intros to One & Sanitarium.
Here is about as simplified a tab as you'll find for RYLaH, and as you can tell, it's very easy to learn, lol. Just a note though: Whoever made the tab forgot to say that the Verse is palm muted the whole way, except for the C power chord (5th string 3rd fret) before leading back into the chorus. 90's+ suggestions: Green Day, Weezer, Nirvana. Most of their songs have a pretty small learning curve. -------------------------------- "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And poof. Well I've been playing my favorite song ever, the kill by 30 seconds to mars. Only the simpler parts though, I need more practice.
But thanks for all the tips, guys, I'll definitely start working on those because I need to start on something easier right now so I can learn some technique. |

For a suggestion, I'd try the "Sweet Dreams" cover by Marylin Manson, or if you're scared you'll become a Satanist, "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Both of those were the first songs I learned, and the first solo.

Did you notice that Manson's cover of Sweet Dreams sounds a lot like an undistorted Crazy Train?

You know....you're right. Good observation mang.
Another song I'd suggest is "Mother" by none other than Danzig. It's pretty simple but sounds uber strong....and rather sexy to the ears. It also gives you a chance to use the "Mother" setting on your amp ------------------------------ The Eleventh Satanic Rule of the Earth: When walking in open territory, bother no one. Actually my brother who plays guitar noticed it.
