Not just for weapons, drugs, and alchohol at school, which I'm against, btw, but Self defence and the whole "anything that looks like a weapon is a weapon" crap.

I think we should be allowed to bring our guns and drugs to school.
You can't learn everything in a textbook. |

I said I was against weapons and drugs to school.

Zero tolerance means the administrators don't have to think. I'm against such policies, because there are always exceptions. How many times have you heard of a student being expelled because the student gave a classmate an aspirin for a headache? Zero tolerance!

I also find is rediculous to get suspended just for defending yourself ater getting punched by another student. It sucks because while you get suspended, that person will most likely just get dentention.

I dont think I know of any schools that are still doing detention, not here in Colorado or back in Oregon, California or Nevada. Seems to be a dieing punishment.
I agree with Quillan, ZT policies leave no room for exceptions. ________________________________ Mentality is undeniable, Mortality is a perspective. |

We still have detentions but its for more minor stuff. When it comes to fights its an automatic 3 day suspension for both people, even if one of the kids doesn't fight back.

Now that's pretty damn lame. They can't suspend you if you don't fight back!

Definitely against. I Agree with quillan. One thing I hate the most in schools is that teachers overuse their power...and those policies are just *****n stupid.
EDIT: oh btw, the question in the poll doesn't match the answers :/ |

Zero tolerence policies are a failure. When a kid gets suspended for a small 2" chain that holds Tweety Bird to her key chain, there is a problem (this actually happened). There should be a set definition as to what is a weapon or a drug. Laziness on a school district if ya ask me.

"Anything that looks like a weapon is a weapon"= most absurd school policy. |

Its just another reason to hate school. I heard a girl got detention once because she hugged her friend and school policy said it was illegal. I was like WTF is wrong with education these days. Heres the link

REVOLT.
Last year there was a new law that EVERYONE'S student/staff card had to be worn VISIBLY around their neck or else they would be considered a terrorist and they would get kicked out. Everybody was doing it for a while, and then it started to slowly die off and it disappeared. ------------- |

I havent noticed that kind of retarded precautions in schools in my country. How is it in other countries like Canada?

My HS was way lax about knives. Since we spent about half the year outside, and went on camping trips, it's kind of expected people would bring knives. Most of the teachers just say "don't let me see it again or it'll be mine" type of thing. Not calling the cops.
Although knowing my HS, one person screwing up (stabbing someone or something), will screw it up for the masses and the incoming students. |

America is odd. Girls kiss each other in affection in our schools when we say hello, no rule against it nor is hugging. Things like, drugs, alcohol and smoking will get you a suspension depending on the kind you waffing around A class drugs find a new school. Knives and guns are are no no here in England full stop the police will deal with you then the courts.
quillan there is a good reason for it though, some people are alergic to them like myself, many of ym classmates where also. I cannot use ones you get off the high street counter, only ones from prescription. So if I was a school kid and asked you for ibuprofen for my headache, I would be dead in 5 mins unless I was rushed to hospital due to the alergic reaction I have from it, so it's common sense not to share it for that reason alone. You want a paracetomol? Just say to your teacher you got a headache. They will send you to the front desk and you ask for it there , they would ask your parents what you are and aren't allowed over the phone, and then they give what you're allowed, if you're not allowed anything they have, you will have the permission to go home because you're too unwell. This is just being responsible and using common sense really, it's been like that since 1994 in many schools where live. It would freak me out if someone gave my Jamie who is 11 drugs for his headache when he has a similar reaction to headache drugs, but how many think of that right? no one really does until someone ends up in hospital or dies, then it is suddenly change the rules. |

How about bringing your own medicine. In my current school it is considered drug dealing
seriously, in Poland they were giving you medicine themselves up to kindergarten. 1st grade and up, I remember everyone taking care of themselves. |
