Figured we might as well do this.
TFS_Jackie edit: I'm editing out the word "official". We are going to have to start cracking down on that. Considering that these are Ubis "official" forums, the word official should be saved for things that are from the company. This message has been edited. But being Ubi is all about hating anything that doesn't deal with getting money... including fixing games.

Does Ubi have "unofficial" forums?
I agree with the edit, which still is a bit lame. Catering to the dumber people (no titles because its hard to read "moderator", no certain words like in this thread, dumbed down games) seems to be the new policy. How do i check my computer specs so i can post them on here, and you guys can tell me what i need new, probably everything. Sig by Melonie,Thanks! |

Easiest way?
Well this way is most thorough. Start Menu > Run > dxdiag (type this and hit enter) > look through the menus and such, you can even save the whole thing as a txt file. This is great for tech support. It should tell you your CPU, ram, mobo, GFX card, Sound card/drivers. ________________________________ Mentality is undeniable, Mortality is a perspective. |

run dxdiag
I'm quite aware of who it is. ohh, you beat me even though our posts are at the same exact time. |

BUMP!
So i got a new custom built PC from a family friend yesterday for 300.I know it isnt a god or anything but it is alot better then the previous PC I had. Casing with Blue LED and see-through side panel. ATI Radeon 9550/X1050 Intel Celeron CPU 2.70 GHz 1GB RAM DVD Drive/Dvd Burner. It blows my old PC away like i said before but i know its not able to run games like COD4 and GoW so if someone could tell me what i need upgrade and links to where i can buy it i would be very thankful. Sig by Melonie,Thanks! |

First things first, do you know what slot that video card is? PCI, AGP or PCIe? If its PCI you cant do crappola with it, if its AGP, we might could do some damage, PCIe is ideal.

Granted you might have wanted to be nice to your buddy by purchasing that computer off of him but you got RIPPED OFF.
Going by what you describe as the processor and the video card you probably have an AGP video slot and SD RAM. If you are lucky you might have DDR RAM at like 400 MHz i'm kinda doubting that though. Either way you pretty much can't run any game that is newer than three years old without slowing down. Don't bother trying to "upgrade" this computer. This one will keep you checking your email for a few good years. |

Actually, MaximumPC just did a thing about upgrading older PCs. First we need to know what motherboard is in it. Grab Belarc Advisor and run it and save the file that is generated to disk. That is for reference and will tell you everything installed hardware and software wise. It will tell you which motherboard you have and even the FSB that it is running at.
A P4 chip (with a possible RAM upgrade) will help as the Celeron chips are basically crippled chips. They feature less L1 and L2 cache on the chip along with a few other small differences. If the motherboard is capable of running in dual channel mode, going from one stick of RAM to 2 smaller sticks in the proper slots will give a boost in preformance. Currently i have 2 sticks of 512 in it.So wont I be able to get 2 sticks of 2024 and then have 4GB of RAM?
So far all the games i tried on it i have been able to run at the highest settings: Splinter Cell Chaos Theory KoTOR 1 & 2 Rise of Nations World of Warcraft Halo Battlefeild 1942 & All Expansions Fable the Lost Chapters Guild Wars Old games, but my old PC couldnt ran half of those. Ill run Belarc once i get out of school and post the jist of it on here. Sig by Melonie,Thanks! |

Sorry man, we cant do nothing until you tell us what motherboard you have.
Like WK said, go here... http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html Dload it, then install and run it. Then you should see something along the lines of this. List whats in red. Preferably whats underlined. 12/30/2006 XXXXDDDD I miss you. "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise" -1 Cor 1:27 |

Main Circuit Board:
Board: PCCHIPS M963GV 5.X Bus Clock: 100 megahertz BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 080009 09/29/2006 And my video card is AGP John. Sig by Melonie,Thanks! |

Here is your motherboard
Your processor upgrade Best Video upgrade (for that computer) Even this is overkill for that processor and RAM. Don't bother upgrading your RAM. Anything more than 1 Gb of RAM in that computer is a waste. Total price, $300 + $119 + $73 + $15(shipping) = $507 |

Without knowing what RAM you have though will not tell us what you would need, if any, to go with that new CPU if you should get it. That chip Boobisphere posted has a 533mHz FSB.

According to the specs on the motherboard it supports 533 or 400 FSB and 800 MHz by Overclocking.
He said he has 2x 512Mb sticks of RAM. Like i said, one gig of RAM with that configuration would be plenty. Any more would be wasted unless he plans on doing some heavy photoshop work or 3D modeling. |
