I do not get any signals when I cross over the outer then inner markers when I'm approaching an airfield. Did I turn them off somehow? Or have they been disabled in FC 1.12B?

Also, I'm practicing ILS in the A10. Any tips or perhaps someone has a video that would help. I've seen Ironhand's ILS training video but that was in a different aircraft.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I know of no reason you should not be getting the outer and inner marker signals --- be sure everything is set to realistic. However if you are not almost precisly on the localizer during the approach I do not think you will get the signal.

An ILS landing is simple and easy once you get the hang of it. It is easier to do than to explain. I will attempt to briefly do it though.

If the Localizer (verticle line) is to your left you simply turn left toward it. The key to doing that is to make a gentle angle of approach. Never chase the line ---- just creep toward it.

If you chase it at a sharp angle you will usually overshoot it and then you have to turn back toward it. This usually results in creating a series of "S" turns all the way to touchdown. Never approach the line at more than about a 20 degree angle and then lessen that angle as the line starts moving toward the center of the HUD.

The slope (the horizontal line)is much the same way ---approach it at a gentle angle and slowly let it come to center. Do not get into a chase mode with this either.

The object is to get both lines centered. They each have tick marks and the center tick marks of each line needs to be overlaping for a perfect approach.

This info pertains to the US planes only. The Russian planes use the same system but different symbology in the HUD.

Maybe you have the volume sliders down.. "Radio calls" or something INstalling a new version will usually reset to default a lot of settings..

Is it a question of you landing at the "wrong" airfield? I'm sure I've experienced a lack of those tones and I think it has been when I emergency landed at an airfield different from the planned one. Try an experiment, use the Mission editor to set up a simple take off and landing mission from an airbase and see if you get the tone when you land. Then run the same mission, but land elsewhere.

Also the obvious Roll Eyes answer of if you land from the ocean side at the airbases next to the coast, then you don't expect the tones.

And in case you didn't know, you can change the ILS landing direction at the airbases. If you use the Weather page in the Mission Editor to set up a decent headwind in the appropriate direction, then Lockon will automatically swap the ILS landing direction to the other end of the runway.
This can be interesting at a couple of airbases as the ILS tries to fly you into the surrounding hills, it's more fun to let you find out which airbases yourself. Big Grin

Well...I guess it wasn't obvious to me! That's what it was. I was practicing approaches from the sea so I didn't have to worry about crashing into mountains. I found a nice airfield inland with no mountains around. I'm getting my marker signals now! Thanks all for the help!!

D'Oh! Big Grin

Sometimes it is the obvious, so I'm glad I mentioned it.

Some airfields near the coast have just enough land before the runway to mount an inner marker. I think Saki, Sochi-Adler and Gaudata are in that category. Sukhumi-Dranda is the same from the ocean side.

I particularly like landing at Gaudata with poor visibility as there is a lighthouse that suddenly looms out of the mist on your approach.

But as you doubtless know - Khersones, Belbek, Novorossiysk and Gelendzhik are so close to the ocean, they have no markers at all from the ocean side.

As for the subject of landing at the "wrong" airfield, I did a quick experiment with my trusty Su-27 regarding landing at an airfield different to the one planned in the Mission Editor.

Provided I used the radio commands and go through the contact tower (F6), request inbound(F3), then it will swap my return airbase from the planned one to the one I am nearest. When I landed there I got the tones OK. Since it was dark, I also got the searchlights illuminating the runway threshold, some folks have problems with that too.

Thanks for the extra info. I'll be trying that out someday.

BTY ... I really enjoyed what you did with the 'Crimean Tour' mission. I've watched Ironhand's video and was so impressed I put it on a CD and took it to work to show my office help how cool LOMAC is. Someday when I get free time I'm gonna fly it myself.

Hope to see you in the air sometime.

yeah, he did a great job with that!

When I was on vacation staying with some friends in the US, I called in to visit with him for a day as he was only a couple of hours drive away.

He'd 90% finished the tour video by then and he came up with the idea of using my voice for the Kerch tower controller. So we did that while I was there, a good laugh.
