I am reading the really great book Warthog: Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War. In the chapter on Scud Hunting, one of the pilots tells the story about being out with his wingman Scud hunting and they find a couple of targets. The pilot says he "Marked the target on INS" so that he could locate the spot after regrouping with his wingman.

I'm intrigued with this because I often want to do something like that too. I don't see enough of INS support ingame to do anything like this. When I want to make a spot, I generally bring up a bomb and use the "Mark bomb location" (TAB key) command to mark a spot so I can find it later. I have no idea if this is the best way to do something like this or not. I'm interested in viewpoints about this method or other ways you do it. I'm also interested if you understand what this pilot was referring to and how that works.

Yes, many of us do the same as you in order to mark the spot of something interesting. I'll tweak a loadout to ensure I'm carrying a bomb just so that technique is available to me.

Another option would be the WP smoke rockets, they'll smoke for several minutes, certainly enough to get back to the target area. A somewhat less politically correct option is to blow up a nearby building. Its smoke will keep going for ever.

Lockon does not allow you to mess with waypoints or anything else Nav system related while flying. Doubtless the Black Shark Ka-50 does have those sort of features...........
