Well I turned labels off, for all that helped me...how are you supposed to spot a missile? I know I'm not the most aware pilot out there but for the life of me I cannot see these things coming at all. They don't have visible trails, so that pretty much leaves me to my instruments...that beep regardless so they don't give off any type of distance coverage between me and the missile. I'm flying the Mig, so my engagement is from distance not that it at all matters cause my missiles just slide off the wing of the other jet. Getting better at flying but I have no idea how to evade missiles without a visible track, which kind of sucks because I'm against a far more agile jet (F-16).

Step by step of my engagement, start out with BVR with the long range missile (can't remember off hand if it is 70 or 75km), lock onto target and fire one missile...then I get locked and have to break lock (I believe this is why my missiles don't hit)...break lock, re-engage then get re-locked by the same missile and die. Is it just me or are the Mig's missiles really slow? As opposed to the 120's they seem like they can't get to the target as quick.

You can see where it is coming from, and how close it is on your instruments right ?
If it's a radar quided missile that is .

edit*

Well i just tried the same. I think i found a pretty easy way to defeat the F-16 .

When you are engaging make sure you are going as fast as you can and preferably a little higher then your opponent.
That way, you should be able to be in range a bit sooner then your enemy .
Fire 1 at max range.
Wait for enemy to return fire.
Start 'beaming' : Slowly drift to left or right to get enemy plane 45 degrees of your nose while maintaining a lock.
Just as you are about to lose lock turn your nose back into him .
Fire another missile when you have enemy centered, and keep drifting to the opposite side to get enemy plane on 45 degrees again.
By that time the enemy should be dead.
If not, fire another missile at 45 degrees and run like hell :-D

I also have a couple of question regarding AI though.

Why does enemy not go at full speed when attacking ?
They even seem to throttle back when engaging ?
Reducing speed and by that also decreasing their max firing range ?

I don't get why they do that .

So far that I can tell the 120 reaches me far before my missile even gets close to the bogey, it is faster has more range and the jet firing it is far more capable than that of my Mig. None of my missiles hit, or seem to even come relatively close by the time the 120 hits me.

I'm going to wait until my Trackir gets here cause this is frustrating me that even while using tactics that far better pilots use I still cannot evade anything aside from hitting a mountain.

One thing you might try is something that has worked for me in every sim I have ever flown ----- as soon as you realize you are the target of an incoming missile pull up sharply into about an 70 degree climb and start poppin chaff and flares.

The climb will cost you some speed but that seems to be the key to the missile missing you. The missile is anticipating your direction but apparently not a constant loss of speed and it should pass in front of you.

Sometimes your timing on this will not be good and the missile will hit you anyway ---but that is just part of the sim.

Haven't tried that yet, usually just bank left or right and wait for a bit and go into a dive. Right now I'm just going to take some time off the game for a bit, look through the tutorials a few more times and read up on some things at SimHQ as well as the manual, maybe a few training flights until my Trackir gets here. I think the Trackir will up my awareness and make it easier to fly while still focusing on the instruments, and hopefully by the time it gets here I will have the training excersises pretty well memorized.

Will update within the next week on my progress. Cheers for the help guys! bow

Or you could just fly the F-15 .

Go into TWS mode, and lock multiple targets and fire missiles on multiple targets .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC3ZANRIQLU Big Grin

Only F-15 can do that.

Also, the A.I is somewhat all-knowing. It knows everyting, even if you fire an IR missile with an IR lock, which SHOULD give the pilot no warning whatsoever.

Yet as soon as you fire, he starts evading lol ...

I can fly the F-15 just fine, but I'm trying to learn to fly the Mig as I've already done the campaign for the F-15 so I want to move onto a new campaign.
