Assuming you meant Russian MAINSTAY, not AWACS.. and that the awacs is properly configured in the editor- That means airborne with a mission purpose. I forget what the list of commands are- but if you select "nothing" you just might get it. Then from the fighter cockpit: A2A mode & then turn radar on to bring up the datalink. You can then power the radar off.

Keep in mind you are not guaranteed 100% SA just because theres a AWACS in the air. Although it's improved since the release, it still strikes me as a bit underdone. I find it loses track of planes pretty damn easily- even if the planes' course remains steady. It's supposed to lose track in the terrain, especially from longer ranges, but I find it to be quite unreliable, but still better than nothing.

I'm sure i can recall getting the datalink with simply going to BVR mode (press 2) and not needed to switch on either radar or IR tracker.

Just to add that you will only get the datalink with Su-27 and MiG-29S.

You won't get it with MiG-29A.

With any of the Russian aircraft you can always ask for and receive a verbal cue to the nearest bandit (from the radio menu - F5, F1).

I have seen it both ways, yes. Mission comes up with datalink engaged already. I figured it to be EWR vs. airborne. I've been in servers with both.

FYI- The SU27 Brit mentions includes the "K" (SU-33)

BVR mode(2) will give you datalink on a 64 x 64 km square around your aircraft.
the other A2a modes will give you a 16 x 16 km square better for close combat. the Mainstay has to have AWACS set as its role in the mission and it has to have direct line of "sight" to the aircraft. if theres a mountain in between it wont see it.

You wont get VECTOR INFO in the HUD (or the HDD) by pressing F5 and F1, you only get a radio message with (nearest) bandit details.

Even in the Su-27 or Su-33 or MiG-29S you wont get anything on the HUD, only info in the HDD (the radar display on the right hand side of your cockpit).

Did you go into the radio command menu first before you pressed F5 and F1?

To get into the radio command menu you press the ~ key, but depending on your country keyboard it may be a different key for your keyboard. For me in the UK, I press the # key. You may have to experiment to figure out what key it is for you.

So I press # F5 F1 and provided I have an awacs in the mission then it will talk to me.

If I am in the MiG-29S or Su-33 or Su-27, then I will see the data-linked data in my HDD from the AWACS. Make sure you have the HDD zoomed out to a big enough range scale so that you can see the bandits (triangles) and friendlies (circles).
