Hey guys, I am new to Lockon so please bare with me. I have a few friends that told me I should play Lockon Flaming cliffs. So I broke down and bought the game. I am writing this post because I am not able to get the game to run.

I got the Lockon installed, moved on to installing Flaming Cliffs, and applied the Patch: 1.12b for the Gold Cd version. (the correct patch needed) I started the game up and it went to an activation screen to check the disk. It went throught that process with success. Then Lockon popped up on my task bar. I seen a yellow hour glass in the center of my screen, and heard the music start up. The problem is, I never get the video at all. My friends told me, "just give it a little bit so it can load up, it just takes some time". Well I have given it 10 mins at one try at it. Nothing! Now I have played various games on my Pc for quite some time, and I have never seen anything like this happen before. It is very frustrating because I keep seeing videos, bought a flight controller and I am wanting to play really bad now. Angry Blue Guy

My System:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Memory: 3 GB
Hard Drive: 500 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 512mb Ram
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3

If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

It is not a normal problem you have there. I would try completey uninstalling Lock On and then reinstalling it into a new directory, example /ubisoft/lockon2

What resolution does you monitor use?

Maybe clean up your computer, defrag, and shut down all unneccessary programs running in the backround. Then look at the drivers for your video card

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_190.62_whql.html

These are the latest non-beta drivers on that site. I don't own Nvidia so If someone else has a better driver source- have at it.

Installing video drivers is NOT just click & go. Make sure you know what you're doing before you begin.

Typically, it's:

Download driver package to your desktop- do not install yet.

Uninstall with a driver cleaner usually found on your card's website.

Reboot & stop the new hardware wizard from trying to find it's own drivers.

Install the new driver package, reboot.

Then see if if won't install & run better. It would seem you have sufficient hardware here.. There's got to be a software issue.

Is this "disk check" done locally or over the internet? If it needs to be online- see if you don't have that windows' "firewall access" confirmation box running behind LOMAC. Alt-tab.

I have reinstalled the game about 5 times. Never did I reinstall the game in a different directory. I could give that a try I suppose.

Max Res is: 1360 x 768 (which is what I am currently using.)

I must say things are pretty clean on the Pc side. Its been defragged as well. I dont have any other programs running at the same time. As far as drivers are concerned, they are all up too date as well.
I think I might just reinstall XP on here, and Lockon by itself, and see if that helps. Then possibly start adding programs back 1 by 1 to see what breaks it. I was trying to avoid that at all cost but its worth a try too.

I am going to run through both of your ideas tho one more time first tho. Maybe there is something that I have missed. The weird thing is, when I run Lockon before I add flaming cliffs, I can run the game. Which is something I found out last night. Then I install flaming Cliffs and then the problem starts. Very strange. You would think if I can load up Lockon then adding Flaming Cliffs shouldn't be a problem. Confused

I really thank you guys alot for getting back to me on this with your ideas as fast as you did. If I ever figure this out, or find the problem I will be sure to post that. Maybe it could help someone eles out in the future. It might take forever but I will get this game to work LOL! Again, thanks!

maybe this is that "DLL hell" thing I've heard referenced here.. Try a search for that. I don't know the fix for it.

In the file .../ubisoft/lockon/config/graphic.cfg make sure your resilution is set correctly. Open the file using nore pad and make sure it reads as follows:

DisplayMode
{
resolution = {1360, 768};
bpp = 32;
fullscreen = 1;
aspect = 1.7;
Interface
{
resolution = {1360, 768};
bpp = 32;
fullscreen = 1;
aspect = 1.7;
}
Simulation
{
resolution = {1360, 768};
bpp = 32;
fullscreen = 1;
aspect = 1.7;
}
AVI
{
resolution = {640, 480};
fullscreen = 0;
aspect = 1.3333;

Also, I know you mentioned this, but make sure you have the correct patch for your version of Flaming Cliffs.

Maybe it allso should be mentionned that certain discs of the first batches of Lockon Gold where defective and if thats the case you can get it replaced free of charge.
You have to E-Mail Evolved Games and they will send you a new disc.

Nope- not any more. They ran out of discs a long time ago, and will no longer support it.

Could it be starforce drivers since LOMAC works and not FC?

Also; are you SURE you're applying the correct patch for your version?
