Hello,
Im normally found in the il2 foums, but i thought id pop over here to get some opinions as i fancy a change in scenery.? I have a couple of questions, if someone would be helpfull enough to answer them. Im talking here about the flaming cliffs version. Firstly, it seems that the game has difficulty running on laptops, is that correct? Secondly, how concerned with the starforce should i have to be. I have no intention of starting a flame war, but i am cautious with my computer. Finally, where is the best place to obtain it in the UK, as i can only find older versions like so http://www.play.com/Search.asp...search&go.x=0&go.y=0 http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=...rds=lock+on+&x=0&y=0 Should i go with the official store. Also, are there any demos knocking around. Thanks in advance. bb |

Any version of Lockon, whether it be the vanilla Lockon or Lockon:Flaming Cliffs(FC), almost certainly will not run on a laptop if the laptop only has integrated graphics chip. If the laptop has an actual (decent) graphics card then not an issue. Some folks it seems have had a prob with StarForce, many others (myself included) have not. If you only buy the vanilla Lockon then no StarForce at all, it was only introduced in FC.
The vanilla Lockon - if you can't find it in the bargain bin at your local PC games shop, then there are always loads on UK Ebay. Last time I looked there were over a dozen for various prices. That will likely be a little cheaper than http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?...op&lang=en&cat_sid=2 To get the single CD version of FC, your only option is an online store (FC was never released to regular shops). http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?...op&lang=en&cat_sid=2 Personally I'd advise getting the CD rather than buy the download. There are different versions of Starforce.......... If you have FC on a CD then when patched up to the latest version you only need the CD in the drive once a week. If you have the DownLoad FC then it checks your PC and you eat up an activation each time you make a major change to your PC. If you are not PC savvy, you can easily accidentally eat up your activations real quick - I've read the posts on various Forums from folks to prove it.
The site where I knew there was a demo doesn't seem to be there anymore. I'll post again if I find a demo elsewhere. Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum.... |

Thank you for the response.
Ill try to obtain the demo, to see if it'll run but im doubtful. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what are the major differences between the original and the add on. Is it significant, or is it 'added bonus' stuff, if you catch my drift? |

Right, ive tried the demo from download.com, and it appears to work fine, though the mig-29 mission freezes on load up.
Is it worth just getting 'vanilla' on its own, or is flaming cliffs significantly better. |

Almost everyone who flies on-line uses FC so if you are an on-line flier, then it's a must have.
As for differences, FC adds another flyable (the Su-25T) with a real accurate flight model that is the real deal according to all those who have flown it. It also adds more things (roadblocks, bunkers, etc you can place into missions using the Mission Editor. It also has significant changes to some counter measures and missile behaviour. Most folks would say Yes, get FC. But you can easily just get the vanilla Lockon first, try it for a couple of weeks and if you are hooked on flying modern aircraft, then go ahead and get FC. Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum.... |
