I may as well say i am a noobie to this gamer as i have only been playing it for 2 days. However my favourite aircraft is the Sukoi SU-33 due to it being the closest thing to the thrust vectoring SU-37 of the real world. I ahve been playing with the mission creator and have been doing 1 v 2 dogfights begining at long range at over 50km. I try pressing 2 and doing the BVR lock on to a target and when the maximum range bar has come and gone by adleast 1 to 2 km i launch..but every single time, the missile never gets even close to the enemy fighter. By this time the enemy fighter has launched a long distance missle well before me and hits with pin point accuracy every time. What am i doing wrong?
First make sure your missile slider in your options menu is at 50%.
Second, remember that even though it is "in range" or maxiumum range bar has reached, that means if u fire then, your target has to do little or no manueuver at all in order to dodge it. So wait a little while longer and get closer to ensure you have a higher chance of killing him.
third, you said R27, which one? The r-27ER missile which is a medium-range semi-active homing (SARH) or the R-27ET missile- medium range infra-red homing. Some missiles you need to keep your radar on him and such...etc.
ive been playin a bit with the Su27 lately and i find i lack a R77 to strap to my Flanker.
anyway i use F-pole to try to get one or 2 missiles through before i have to maneuver. however even though i fire my second missile inside the no escape zone, they still manege to evade the missiles. the skill is set to high to make sure i get some challenge but how close do you have to be to make your 27ER hit? they always seem to miss.
what do you do when you get launch warning from an enemy but you have no idea where he is and launched from and have no labels at all?
i find it nearly impossible to suvive unless you hit full burner and fly the other direktion completly ditching all offensive tactics.
I just started out in this sim too, and I have to say I've found you have to have different expectations offline than online.
From Ironhand's tutorials, I know when I see the computer launch a SAHR missile and then see in the track file recording that the AI plane wasn't anywhere close to being in a position to keep me locked (120 degrees off? Pfff)...well...nothing to get upset about.
I don't expect a missile to hit if I'm not in visual range when I'm playing offline. This is why I pretty much only practice evading missiles offline in preparation for online play.
Fighting against AI in this manner is a waste of time. (beyond practicing the basic buttons & procedures) See they know when you fired, what you fired, and follow the same script every time. Generally, AI will not fire at RMAX. They will close in a little first- usually around 30 KM or so. You could fire first and get them defensive. You'll need to fire anopther to keep them defensive, and close in, then go for the kill. Don"t let them turn more than 90 around, because AI always know EXACTLY where you are- they can insta- lock and fire at you from ridiculous angles. Changing your altitude, etc makes no difference- they know. I have even seen on occasion their SARH missiles track even though they were in full retreat. This of course is not possible. You must remain painted and locked in order for an R, ER, EM to track you.

thats just sad...the thing is i enjoy making missions and i of course would like to fly them aswell...and also HL isnt that populated in Lock on Lobby and the 2 or 3 populated servers are often laggy which sucks
The answer could be to fly in a wing of strikers, with fighter escort engaging bandits overhead..
Even better; fly online. Nothing beats 20 minute flights to attack the enemy airfield from behind with dedicated SEAD, bombers and fighter escort. Once 4 of us racked up something like 20-30 kills in the 169th server in maybe 10 minutes by taking them totally by surprise; killing inbound and outbound fighters, bombing spooling fighters, it was amazing! So get online and join the fun
