I know that this has been discussed and what not a LOT. I did searches and looked through pages of threads, but they were out of date, or just not quite what I wanted.

Need some standard and super cool ones if possible. I want some cool skins for my own pleasure.
The standard ones will be used in a film maybe.

Here's what I know so far. Correct if I'm wrong please.

+ I need LOMAN tool. I have v 6.3.01 which should be the most current.
+ The skin 'replaces' one of the stock skins, so I don't really get an additional skin.
+ If I wanna play online, I have to 'un-install' the skin by using LOMAN tool.

What I want to know:
So is it or is it not possible to have the wings swing back in flight, when a player is flying the jet? Automatic or manual, doesn't matter.
Can it be done only on land/carrier?

Help me out folks!

Thank You!

Yes, I think that is the current version.

That's correct, you can't ADD new skins, only replace a existing one (which one is replaced depends on which one the skin designer chose to be replaced with the new one). Then of course (and this is what confuses some new people) you have to go into the Mission Editor, choose the aircraft, choose PAYLOAD and then choose the skin, then remember to SAVE the mission Wink

Actually no. Because of the size of skins, Lockon does not swap actual skins between on-line players, it swaps the minimum info, ie simply the skin number. You will see whatever skin number "x" is, but another online player will see whatever the installation of Lockon on his own PC thinks skin number "x" is.

No control of swing wings is possible when using a Mod to fly the AI F-14 yourself. Lockon is not generally very Mod friendly, so don't expect Mods to do everything you might want. If the things you want were easy, the Devs would have already put them into the Sim in the first place. Wink
Don't be fooled by any Lockon movies you may have seen either. Movie makers will often use combinations of shots of actual AI and shots of Modded AI flown by them to give the illusion of Lockon being capable of doing things that it can't actually do..

Hey thanks a bunch Radar_Dude.

So can't people make the skin ALREADY with the wings folded? So that it looks that way no matter at what speed the plane is going???? Or are there some like that already?

I only went to the first link for now, since I'd have to register and etc. for the others. If there are some with folded wings in the others I'll do it. If there are some in the first link, please let me know which ones they are.

OH wow this is annoying.

I have LockOn, plus FC that I bought online, plus patch 12b I think.

Should it be working ok??? On jagbog site it says skins are compatible with loman 2.1. Is that the problem?

here's what's up:

I installed a pack, all went well. All files ahd 'green' status etc.
I went mission editor, added a jet...but which jet will the skin be on??? Where is that info?? It should be over F-15 no?
I selected all skins and no F-14. wtf what plane did the skins go to and which skins did it 'replace' ??? grr

Am I missing something???

Thanks for help!

1) Registering. JaboG32 site and LockonFiles site are must-have sites and well worth registering for all the great stuff they have.

2) Skins with folded wings. No, you are misunderstanding what a skin is. It is simply the paintwork that goes over the model of the aircraft. It is the model that folds its wings, lowers flaps, landing gear etc. The skin is simply the paint on top of the model. Hence the term "skin" is quite appropriate and accurate. It isn't your skin that moves your arm, it is the bones and muscles (ie the model) underneath. Smile

As for your second post, I'm not sure what the problem might be. If you are adding F-14 skins with LOMAN, then they will be on the F-14, not sure why you would think they would be on the F-15?

Remember that there are only a set number of skin slots for an aircraft. When you use LOMAN or MODMAN to add a skin or skins they replace a default skin. So your course of action should be....

Add a skin in LOMAN
Open the Mission editor
Choose an F-14
Choose PAYLOAD
Change COLOUR SCHEME. Make sure you actually look through all the colour schemes to find the one you want, as the name of the default skin is not always replaced! So the new skin might actually be there, but the name of the old (default) skin may still be on the pulldown menu list. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't, I think it depends on whether the skin designer made the LOMAN pack correctly. But it's no big deal.....

Hey Radar, thanks a lot for sticking with me through this.

I think there was a misunderstanding. I should have stated more clearly that I as in ME wanted to pilot the F-14, not AI.

I thought a skin was changing the looks of a plane, as in the model, but the physics would be the ones of the original plane. i.e. people talking about flying F-14 but the cockpit looks like an SU-33 because the physics and everything are the SU-33, just not the body.

So how would I do that? If the answer is lengthy, hold off. I'm getting into virtual air navy ops and I think they're gonna show me all I need to know.

Thanks again though. I will be using skins eventually anyway, so this got me all set up!

Yeah, when you use the (often used) Mod that edits the MEInit.xml file to change HumanCockpit=No to =Yes for the AI jets, then you get a default Su-27 cockpit, the aircraft looks like the AI externally and its flight handling will be a mish-mash of the Su-27 and the AI jet concerned. This does mean that small jets (like the F-5) handle like a rocket and the big AI (like the B-52) handle like a brick.

This Mod was really designed so movie makers could more easily set up the shots and angles they wanted themselves rather than trying to use the Mission Editor to make the AI do it.

NOTE to anyone else reading this thread - the change mentioned above only works for FC, since the code to make it work was added in FC, It WILL NOT WORK in v1.02 Eek

Folks such as the virtual navyops bunch are working on more sophisticated Mods - I suspect along the lines of the French Communities recent AdA Mod to add Mirages, etc.

I dont bother with using this Mod myself, but to get back to the issue of skins - surely if you are flying an AI F-14 yourself (using the humancockpit=yes Mod), then you can still put one of those F14 skins on it?

No worries Romster. When I started out with Lockon back in the day, there were folks in the Community who helped me out a lot.
Nice to have a chance to put something back in with whatever bits of stuff I know.
