i've never heard of a desktop video card that used shared ram. onboard chips would be the only ones to do that.

that card is about 4 generations old though. what are you upgrading from, and how much did this one cost you? might not be the most cost effective upgrade you could have made.

I know it is an older card, but I think it will be a major upgrade for my system from a FX5200 with 128 Mb RAM.

Now --what is a "desktop video card" --????

yes, it will be a considerable upgrade from that. i suppose it's too late now that you've ordered, but a couple of the HD 3000 series come in AGP for a good price.

what i mean by desktop is a physical expansion card for a desktop pc, as opposed to either an onboard graphics chip on the motherboard, or a laptop graphics chip.

I spent a week searching for a decent video card both on the net and at the local computer stores. Also ask all my PC savvy buddies.

Mostly had problems finding an AGP card --- the new PCI express is taking over and there are not many places that even sell AGP cards anymore so I feel lucky to get the one I got.

That card will run Lomac just fine, but if you have the cash this is the best AGP card to buy

That card and the one I bought are similar in price. However I already had a card ordered before your post.

I now have it installed and it has allowed me to increase almost all my graphic settings in LO to max an still maintain good FPS.

I am very pleased with this old dinosaur.

Even downloaded a new driver dated march 18 2009.
