i've never heard of a desktop video card that used shared ram. onboard chips would be the only ones to do that.
that card is about 4 generations old though. what are you upgrading from, and how much did this one cost you? might not be the most cost effective upgrade you could have made.
yes, it will be a considerable upgrade from that. i suppose it's too late now that you've ordered, but a couple of the HD 3000 series come in AGP for a good price.
what i mean by desktop is a physical expansion card for a desktop pc, as opposed to either an onboard graphics chip on the motherboard, or a laptop graphics chip.
I spent a week searching for a decent video card both on the net and at the local computer stores. Also ask all my PC savvy buddies.
Mostly had problems finding an AGP card --- the new PCI express is taking over and there are not many places that even sell AGP cards anymore so I feel lucky to get the one I got.
