What are some techniques for BVR fighting? like how do I get my F-15 to perform better in a BVR engagement? I get shot down alot cause im not very familiar with BVR

Way too much to type given all the scenarios, but here's a couple of items..
Don't use that jammer until you NEED it. It's like wearing a giant blinking neon arrow pointing at your head. Remember that while radar shows you what's out there- it also gives away your presence. Don't focus on one guy too early. Tunnel vision= bad. Take in all the info- and try to have a clear tactical picture before pressing an engagement. He may not be alone. Get on a comms channel. Why on EARTH would ANYONE fly online and not be able to communicate? Every server hosts a TS or a ventrilo comms channel. If you don't use it- well Don't say no one told you. Fly with a wingman. Use the weapons within their limitations. Just because you CAN fire @ 30 miles or 45 KM doesn't mean you should.. |

if you have more than one target use "track while scan" (TWS) mode to fire at more than one target at a time, and aout the firing range i usually wait till enemy fires first, also there was something i never understood in russian fighters instead of pressing "I" for radar pressing "O" gives you this strange screen that doesn't "blow your cover", maybe someone can explain it better than me

thank you for the help guys. konkussion you said something about communication, how could a use my headset to talk to other people in LOMAC?Foxtrot i think that wierd russian mode was infared, that buldge in front of the cockpit is an infared scanner type thingy.

Download and install Teamspeak & Ventrilo- both are available on my site. You'll need a headset/mic. Read mission briefings to get the channels you need.
Yes the EOS electro optical sensor is a way to track bogeys via their heat signature. Notice that I said "BOGEYS" as in "UNKNOWN" as in "POSSIBLE FRIENDLY AIRCRAFT" Heat cannot be identified as friendly or hostile by any sensor. There is NO IFF when using this sensor. The sensor will detect a heat plume and allow you to target it. The closer the heat source, the wider the HUD indication. You can then deploy an IR missile to that target, and there will be NO lock or launch warning relayed to the target. You should know: This device is not radar. You should expect that a nose-on target is NOT going to give a strong signal like the back will. Afterburners are hotter. The EOS can see this better from further away than say.. an A10. In other words- if you're not paying attention- you could fly right over an A10 with only a scant indication. There is no new contact sound/ alarm on the EOS. Normal missile parameters apply. (Range, etc.) Remember that just because an aircraft is 8 KM in front of you it does not guarantee the "25km" R-27ET is going to hit it. If you are on someone's butt chasing him away, both of you supersonic.. well you see. |

okay, i alerady knew about the heat signature stuff, but isnt EOS also a form of radar?

^ Works great in the mountains . Not so much on flat lands , for me that is since you really can't hide from radar on flat lands anyway.
For the F-15 i like to get up really really high up . That may work for the first couple of times as long as you dont turn on your radar untill you are pretty sure you are flying almost right above an enemy . Then press ALT-I , set radar to lowest at 20 miles, lock one or two baddies. Fire and hope for the best while getting the F out of there ;-) Anyway, ALT-I is REALLY important . You can engage as many targets as you want at the same time so that you force them into evasive if you are up to more then one enemies . As long as they are dodging missiles they have a harder time attacking you . Once you get a kill, dont push your luck and land at your base to collect your points . _____________________________ E8500 (3,8 ghz) Evga 780 i OCZ EL plat 2GB 8800 GTX SLI http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5441922 |

Also handy is AWACS. always ask them for a bandit bearing, if you want an update on their posistion.
If youre flying with a comp wingman, make damn sure that he has his radar off. it minimises the avalibilty of information your giving you enemies. the less they know, the better for you. And remembers Murphys Laws: If they are in range, so are YOU!! |

Wags94,
You might be interested in some Flanker 1.5 videos that I've posted. They include a text commentary of what's going on. www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=sr22gts. Look for anything that says 'Taurion vs Wags', as we only did BVR stuff. There are gunso and WVR missile fights as well. Forgive the crudity of the videos. Hope it helps. Quentin J. Sorry for bringing up a month old topic and being a bit off topic, but. I've watched the old trk´s that Taurion put on Youtube and even little me is in one, and as I commented I could at least show people how NOT to do a gunso!
