For the past week I have put in a lot of effort evaluating bombing tactics and air to ground weapons. The best weapons in my opinion are the cluster bombs and the rockets.
The cluster bombs cover a wider area and are most excellent for soft targets such as a group of enemy planes lined up on a parking pad. Buildings also will disappear with them. The rockets are almost as useful however some goof ball forgets to load a few tubes and cheats you out a a few more kills. As for accurate release of these weapons I recommend a bombing speed of no less than 700 to 800 KPH. Slower than that and the pipper will pass over the target before it is time for bomb release. You have to have enough speed for the bombs to achieve the required fall distance for accuracy. Otherwise they will fall way short of the target. Even with the "ALT W" option which allows you to bomb targets of opportunity you still need this speed for accuracy. With the proper speed you will easily get the "launch authorization" or at least the bomb fall line will appear in the HUD. Without either one of these your bombs will fall short. I know I am not telling some of you guys anything new but possibly some newbies will benefit from this info. |

More information about Ground Attack.
Read these great articles from SimHQ, you can click on the embedded pictures for bigger readable size. Whilst the articles are focussed on the A-10, the tips are good for any aircraft. Helped me enormously when I started, a must read! Bombs http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_101a.html Mavericks,Rockets and Guns http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_098a.html Sorry Death, you lose! Further bombing testing shows that a bombing speed of 900 KPH is just about ideal to insure bomb release indicators ---either Bettys authorization or a bomb fall line indicator---
900 KPH converts to about 560 MPH amd/or 485 Knots. This is not really fast and insures my best results. My usual bombing altitude starts at approximately 6000 to about 8000 ft --2500 meters. |

Please can someone help me, I have problem with Lock On (v. 1.02) ?
I have no problem for bombing with A-10, but many with russian planes, specially the Su-25. Often i cannot obtain the launch authorization and i try in vain to release the bombs. Is there a tutorial for the bombing with the release Russian aircraft (the training file is not useful)? Is it possible to drop iron bombs from low altitude level flying over the target...? Or are we to forced to a fast dive attack ? This seems to be unrealistic for me. Thank you. |

I think the primary reason bombs are hard to release is your air speed is to low.
Lets say you are releaseing a bomb from 1500 feet and 500 kps. The bomb needs to travel a certain distance foward as well as downward. At low speeds the bomb will not have enough forward momentum to reach the target. It will mostly just be a falling bomb for all practical purposes. The CCIP computer (Continuousely computed impact point)recognizes that the bomb has no chance of hitting a target that is visible in the HUD so you do not get a CCIP bombing pipper on the end of the bomb fall line ---and consequently no launch authorization. Speed is the answer. Be sure you are at or above 900 KPH to insure a good and timely launch authorization. |

OK boys, thank you.
But I have discovered a new features in 1.02, the launch override (ALT + W is the default key) and so I can bombing everithing, also a building or a bridge, freely in each moment, no matter to speed or altitude. Now it's fantastic manually release FAB with the Su-25 Frogfoot. Stebas |
