I have a friend who is having a problem loading FC over Lockon. Both CD's are brand new.

FC stops loading about 1/3 through the install and gives an error 3.

Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong??

Did the CD's say "Evolved games" on them? If so- they are not new. This was a re- release of LOCK ON:GOLD in which the first several hundred CD's made had defective disc #2's. Instead of pulling the product off the shelf- they just left them there to sell, and let the customers deal with the aggravation of figuring out what was going on and how to get the disc replaced. Evolved replaced the defective discs for a while, but that has been over for a long time. If your friend bought these used from someone- you can be SURE that the seller is fully aware of this, and has simply dumped the product onto someone else.

My only concern here is that I seem to recall that the defective Evolved disc would demand a non existant CD key. I'm not sure what error 3 is. If these CD's do not have "evolved" on them- then there is another issue here.

I will not be able to talk to the guy again until late this afternoon.

I found a thread on this forum from the past where a guy had the same problem with this error 3 and the install not completing.

He said that he just kept retrying to install and after a number of trys it finally loaded.

We tried various things to get FC loaded. Bewteen the two of us we came up with various things to try.

But all to no avail. The final conclusion was that the disk was defective.

The 680 MB Install exe is defective. And this is not the gold version.

My friend is going to buy another one.
