Is there any easy way to convert this 29A skin to 29S ?

It's a fantastic skin imo with nice details and all .

And why is this one not working ?

It's installed exactly like the black skin, but does not work ! :x

The only thing I can think of is the question of what skin slot number does it use?

My understanding of the way that skins work is that there are a fixed number of slots for skins for each aircraft. A Community authored skin will replace the default skin in that slot number. Sometimes a readme with the skin will tell you which one, more usually you have to look through the pulldown list of skins when in the PAYLOAD section of the Mission Editor to spot where your new skin is.

Is it possible that you have a conflict between two new skins that ar using the same slot number and one is overwriting the other and thus MODMAN will show the skin that has been overwritten as not being installed?

There is no readme unortunately with the last skin .

Also one skin is for the 29A , and the other one for the 29S .
I also have tried uninstalling the one that worked, but that did not help either.

I'll try again, as i'm not sure if i have uninstalled all the skins except the blue one .

edit* Ok i can get it to run, but only if i don't let modman convert the bmp files into cdds files (whatever they may be)but this seems to hurt performance indeed.

Ahh... Sometimes the readme file tells you to uncheck the CDDS box on certain skins/mods etc.

I think a cdds file is a collection of individual texture files - each one in its own individual (specific size) slot. If a skin has been done by its author to a higher resolution and therefore a bigger size, then it won't fit into the cdds file slot and I suspect therefore doesn't work.

My understanding is that use of cdds files speeds up Lockon performance. Any other skins go into ...Lockon\Bazar\TempTextures and any skins used from there can hit performance.

I know this performance hit to be true fro my own experience. Someone did a new skin for the red KAMAZ fire truck, it looked quite nice - it went into the temp textures area. But each time I pass a fire truck while taxiing, I noticed a 3-5 FPS drop on my system.

yeah those are big pictures allright. One of them is 17 MB . Another 16 mb and the remaining like 4 or 5 mb .

I also tried making the .bmp files .gif files, in the original files.
Then change allt he .bmp extensions in some 'lma3' file to .gif , but then modman starts whining about errors :-)

I guess .gif is not recognized by the game itself nor modman .

Well, i tried ... The original file makes for a pretty hefty performance hit, even on my system which is not particularly slow so out it goes. (the skin that is)
