Escar I have yet another update to my OGG sound tweak Wink

Another tip is to replace All LOMACS sounds swaping all WAV's by OGG's. During tests by beta testers, before the game was released, it was determined that WAV sounds resulted in less CPU usage.
IMHO however they should have explored this issue further, since replacing WAV sound with OGG's equivalents resulted in MUCH better perfomance in my old Atlhon thunderbird @ 1200MHZ with 512MB SDRAM.

I suspect the beta testers had significantly better machines than I did at the time, (i.e. like 1GB of ram), I think that if OGG may indeed take up more processing resources (or is it placebo?) but it also saved a lot of memory space.
Originaly the sound directory of LOMAC takes up 120 Megs of space VS the 27 with OGG's (varies with the sound quality you want during convertion)
I found that the trade-off was well worth the transition.
I mean I dont know how the difference in HD space translates into RAM usage, I dont know how the game processes these files, but the game ran with less stuttering, Average FPS went up, re-loading missions took half the time.

Bear in mind that some ppl had used this MOD, and experience tells us that using sound MOD's other than the games original sounds, issues such as distorted sounds may occur.
I didnt use such mods but I noticed the missile launch sound was different, sounding like a sudden reverbed turbulent wirl passing by. IMHO its actualy better than the sissy wooosh sound! Big Grin

Anyway your advised, use this at your own risk , I dont expect any PC to blow up though. Wink
Keep your sound compilations backed up and do the following:

1) Go to the website :
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

2)download the DbPowerAmp utility. It executes when you right click to see the files properties.

3)download the OGG codec pack

4)install the utility and upgrade it to the OGG codec.

5)do a search under LOMACS sound directory for all WAV sounds.

6)Select them all and right click the selection.

7)Convert the sound files using this utility, give the converted files the same ID properties as the originals, and select fixed bit rate (as oposed to variable bit rate)

8) wait 2 minutes untill all the 1800 files are converted.

9) your set to go!

If you hear any distorted sounds, convert another version of that sound or try a differet attribute sound quality.

you have to make tests if the trade off is worth, usualy is for low end systems.
Fast machines will benefit less (or none at all) specialy if you have 1GB of ram or more.

if you use this tweak with the sound.cfg range and angle tweak it yelds even better results.

Pilotasso, thanks for the updates. They will be included. Smile

xylem_1, OMG, sorry for making you wait so long. Smile

Question 1: Mmmm... checking. ****... it seems that it's missing. I thought I added this info. :|

Question 2. Yes. I wanted to preserve the layout and I had to underline the header somehow. Putting a link to google seemed best option. Mmm... I'll try to do something about it. Smile

Not exactly a secret. I can't find it myself though. I distinctively remember someone here writing about an extra training mission for one of the planes (It seems that the bells are ringing in the "A-10" church, but it might as well be "Su-27" catherdal Wink ). It had something to do with some file swapping. Can't remember anything more about it. I thought I wrote down that thread and included it in my notes, but it's not there. Perhaps someone on the forum still remembers that thread and could post a link to it? Smile

Or... perhaps such mission does not exist and I'm simply slipping into dementia and total mental disorder. That's a comforting thought. Wink

Hi, This has probably been mentioned, but Hungaro jets mod... I downloaded it from www.combatace.com and it seems to actually mod the aircraft. However, the flightmodels need some work. Seriously though, it is a completely different flight model and can hold weapons the way it should. Anyone have any info for me?

*Campaign instability problem on WinXP/SP2*

I think I found the ultimate solution to the campaign/msvcrt.dll/instability problem on windows xp sp2.

First make sure you have the msvcrt.dll that came with lomac in the lomac folder (this is for those of you who tried replacing it with other versions). Now create an empty file named "lockon.exe.local" without the quotes of course in the same folder where lockon.exe is located (C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On).

When you start lomac you will get a couple of dialog boxes saying "The procedure entry point _resetstkoflw could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll", just click ok and continue, go into your campaign and play it.

The explanation.
What we have here is a classic problem known as DLL HELL. Lomac comes with its own msvcrt.dll but due to the way it loads dlls, it ends up always loading the one in the /system32 folder which is buggy (it loads ntdll.dll which loads other dlls which load the wrong msvcrt.dll).

The trick to force windows to load the msvcrt.dll in the lomac folder was to create a file with a .local extension, as in lockon.exe.local, which forces windows to load the right dll.

I just tested the su25 campaign which worked for me and it flew it without errors for the first time ever. I would like to know how it works out for other sp2 users.

*Lower game stutter and improve your FPS*

There was another topic, where you could change the latency settings of your graphics card with PCI Latency tool, but i just can't find it.

So, DL the PCI Latency Tool (you can get it on Guru3D) and lower the settings for the GC to about 32 or 64. It lowers game stutter or even improve FPS.

Come on people, don't let one of the best topics on this forum die out!

anyone have any luck having transport aircraft simulate dropping paratroopers? would be nice for c-17's, 130's, and il-76's to be able to do this during missions, just adds more to the atmosphere.

Hopefully, this'll bump up this thread and result in updates.

After reading these forums, I found out that Teka-teka's responded with an update to his tips about how to mod or 'improve' Lock-on's views.... instead of editing the view.cfg or the view.lua files, edit the server.lua file instead.

This NEEDS to be updated. It is a really valuable resource to those just getting into the game, but half the links are dead!

One mod in paticular has been eluding me, The Flyable F-16 mod. All the links to this mod seem to be dead and more perplexing all discussion of the mod seems to have stopped since 2004. I've beem searching all over the net for it and can only find dead ends. If anyone has any ideas where to locate this I would appreciate it, much!
