New mod: Attaining a sort of 'back-seater's' view for any of the flyable planes in Lock-On, or, for that matter, moving the cockpit anywhere relative to the airframe...

You're absolutely right, it's not Wink2

There was a prototype two-seat version of the A10A - funnily enough called the A10B.

It was never built, but if there's enough demand for one then I'll put one together.

There's a two-seat version of the MiG29 - I think it's the MiG29UB.
This jet is pretty similar to the Sukhoi series . . . . but the handling is interesting enough for me to want to do a two-seater - it should be useful to the MiG squads, if nothing else.

However, IIRC the MiG29UB has a significantly longer nose than the stock MiG29 - so this could introduce some problems with the rear seat.

I don't know what can be done with the Su25.
I don't know if I've misunderstood the Russlish or not, but it's a bit ambiguous whether the LAN Instructor feature works with this jet.

Pride of place, for me, goes to the Su30KUB.

A completely fictional jet . . . . but I've put the most work in on it, and I plan still more.

On the list of things I'd like to do for a v1.5:

- Fix the lack of a renamed jet in the payload window. I can now do this, it's in the F15D mod. Needs a new version for the Su30KUB, though.

- Add Flanker562's fantastic new Navy skin.

- Tweak the skins and their names a bit more. After all the trouble I went to in adding Flanker562's Desert Splinter skin from the Su33, he pointed out that he just adapted his from the Su30 Desert Splinter skin already ingame . . . spot the muppet Hammer

- Remove the IRST ball from the rear cockpit. Already done the refuelling probe, hope to do this for that bit more immersion.

- Upgrade the weapons packages Wink2 Happy
This is a fictional jet, and people have been crying out for the Su30MK . . . . . so in order to satisfy those who crave the roles they miss from F2.5, some of it will come back in . . . . with the added ability to do it with the backseater operating as a WSO working the weapons.

Added will be the R77, the Kh31P, the Kh29 . . . . sadly no KAB TV-guided bomb, since nobody can get it to work in Lomac.

The Kh41 will stay in the loadouts for fun value.

I'm going to contact JJ_Alfa, and see if I can include the improved Su30KUB in his Lomac superpack. His mod uses several of the type of tweaks mine do, so they won't work together - and I for one want to be able to have them both installed at the same time.

It's an obvious addition to Naval combat . . . . which is, after all, the focus of his mod.

Hopefully, that will then come into the list as THE mod to have for Lomac . . . . I know it would be for me.

So my priorities for two-seaters:

Su30KUB v1.5 - new skins, visual tweaks, advanced weapons package

Including the Su30KUB v1.5 in JJ_Alfa's Naval mod. Big Grin

MiG29UB

A10B

Su25UB

There may be a pause before I can get some more of this out - I do have to fit in some academic work at some point along the line.

I regret that I cannot investigate the LAN Instructor mod over the net due to my appalling net connection. Come the end of September, I'm looking for broadband in my student bachelor pad . . . . so may be able to do some stuff then.

Until then, I'll have to just interest myself in the theoretical side of it - if someone develops a fix that I can throw into a Loman mod, I'll do it like a shot.

Happy

(edit - there's a How To.txt in my mods about the LAN Instructor feature - but it's geared towards the use of my mods. Might be worth a look if you want a set of instructions on how to work this feature Happy)

Yeah, but if you request something please make sure first that you have enough space on your e-mail account. I've sent you the requested files a couple of days ago and everything was thrown back at my account. Clear up your mailbox and PM me and I'll send it again. BTW, I'm writing this here, because you didn't respond to any e-mails or PM's.

Yet another update. This time a bigger one. Two sections added (I think, it's so big now that I've lost track of what's placed where) + a couple of mods and tweaks. It now spans 122 pages pasted to Word. Smile 219 KB on the disc.

I've asked a couple of questions some time ago: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=38610606&m=541106785&r=263102406

Nobody answered but it seems that these questions will be partially answered by a very promising mod which is being developed here: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=38610606&m=793106216 .

Questions 1-4 will be partially solved probably, although not totally. So let me just repeat a couple of questions:

1. Somebody pliz prepare a mod for complete chimney smoke removal. Meaning: create something, that will disable chimney smoke even with scenery and visibility settings set to high. Chimney smoke is pretty demanding. Many people may fly with high settings as long as there's no smoke-stack in sight. I have written down a tweak for thinning out cities, etc. but clearly a mod for chimney smoke removal is missing.

2. If it would be possible, devise something similar for overacast. Low and med overcast mods are great, but it sure would be helpful for low-end PC gamers to have the ability to thin out overcast almost to nothingness.

3. There is a knee clipboard mod for western planes. Will somebody finally make a clipboard for eastern planes!?!?!?!?!? (this is a personal request :> :P )

4. What does the "\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\Bazar\Graphics\rederstateparser.cfg" do? Is it an "FPS thing of interest" or nothing to waste time with? If it does something interesting, could someone post a "tweak" for this file?

Feedback apprecieted. Especially concerning those questions and the FAQ. If I'm mistaken somewhere, do point it out. Smile

Goodnight.

Damn, hold your horses people. I'm reffering to the part of the sticky instructing you how to play birtgliderpilot's mod from behind a router. It seems that it not always works as advertised. Frown I just got a message from GGTharos and it reads:

quote:

Alright, tested from behind router. So far, failure ...

I and the client opened ports 2302 and 6073. This resulted in a successful connection, but when I hit 'FLY' the client crashes with a memory error (invalid memeory location being read) and my LOMAC crashes as well, in the top right corner I have red letters saying 'Waiting for other players'

I did follow the procure for hosting (two players, single-play mission) and the client did follow the procedure for himself as well (get in, hit spectator, do nothing else)

That's my report o nthis matter for now. Suckagerrific, I really hope we'll be able to address this as this would be quite a boon for training new squaddies in things such as IFR aproaches and just plain instrumentation training.

Earlier Megile however managed to do this just using 2302 port, so don't dispair. We'll be checking what's going on. Perhaps (and hopefully) this problem is just related to GGTharos's or the other person's computer.

It's just a warrning of what you might expect while trying to connect via 2302.

A REQUEST: If you're trying to connect with this mod from behind a router using the ports I've mentioned, please PM me about your findings. Especially if you manage to get everything up and running. Remember, those ports are the ports you have to forward by changing the settings of your ROUTER, NOT your putter! Smile

Another update.

What can I say, I got bored today. Smile

Besides, it's all britgliderpilot's fault. I wanted to hang this thread on a peg for another week or something, but he just had to post his new mod. Wink

I know that this sticky has grown to a B-52 size and some of you might feel a bit lost while trying to find something in it. That's why I made a fresh index of contents to help you navigate through all this data (look at it and you'll see new section I've just added).

Even if you're not going to venture there, read the list so that you know what's in it. This way you'll know where to look for some things when you'll start to look for them Wink , or you'll know where to direct n00bs looking for some mods or advice.

Perhaps by just looking at the list you'll get thoughts like "OMG, I didn't know that this is in that thread, I have to check it out now." Wink Anyway, here it goes, the general list of contents and then the list of tips and tweaks:

1. Introduction.
2. LOMAN MINI FAQ.
3. LO-MAC MINI FAQ.
4. Sig FAQ.
5. List of interesting sites:
- game, game settings, missions, MP, interesting places,
- how to fight and fly&how to fly and fight,
- terminology and stuff,
- tutorials, how-to's, walkthroughs and other stuff,
- something for you F/A-18 "Hornet" fanatics.
6. Mods:
- executables,
- FPS improvement mods,
- immersion&graphics improvement mods,
- "flyable" airplanes mods,
- sound mods,
- cockpit mods,
- various terrain mods,
- other textures and files.
7. Mitch Janssen's Corner.
8. Two seater planes mods.
9. List of tips&tweaks contained in this thread.
10. Tips&tweaks.

Now the contents of no. 10 position, tips and tweaks list:

I have finished reading most of this section of this forum but still have a question, you will have to excuse the fact I am VERY new to this game and forum.

I currently run:
Intel 2.4Ghz Machine
512Mb DDR Ram
NVidea MX 440 (68 Meg) Card
Setaik (how ever you spell it?) Joystick with throttle control.

I have 2 issues (I really hope you have not already answered, and sorry if you have.)

I have performance issues, jumpy screen, or lagging, I have my graphics settings on MEDIUM. What can I do. Or do I need to go buy a new Video Card? (which would be ok as well).
How big of a deal (performance wise) is an onboard sound card?

Issue 2. I find the joystick very senstivie and have a hard time lining my targets up for rocket, gunning and guided missle shots. (I am still in training, I love the steep learning curve!) What can I do to make the stick a little less sensitive to minor movements and yet still effective for evasive manuevers?

Thank you for your time!

Saitek. They make nice joysticks. Smile

Yep. Sorry to tell you this, but your graphic card is your problem. Your CPU and amount of RAM seem adequate (although extra 256 or 512 MB wouldn't hurt). However, your card is way below the level needed to actually play LOMAC the way it's supposed to be played. There's a section in the LO-MAC MINI FAQ (first post in this thread) about real minimum and recomended specs for LO-MAC. Look it up. Smile Basically, if you replace your graphic card, you'll see a tremendous improvement in the game. Smile

Onboard sound is not sucha a great thing too, although some people claim that they get better FPS with inboard sound. But I take these as exceptions confirming the rule. A full sound card, with its own sound processors, is always better then onboard sound which relies heavily on CPU power, thus stealing cycles that could and should be used by the game. Smile

But your sound is much lesser issue then your graphic card. I'd say that this is the first thing you should try to replace in your PC. Smile

Issue 2. I find the joystick very senstivie and have a hard time lining my targets up for rocket, gunning and guided missle shots. (I am still in training, I love the steep learning curve!) What can I do to make the stick a little less sensitive to minor movements and yet still effective for evasive manuevers?

You have to go to the game's options menu and then to the "input" submenu, then choose your joystick (left top), then change from keys to axes (also top left of the screen), then choose the axis you want to correct and then you'll have access to the sensitivity settings of your joystick. You got two options, responses and test. In responses you set everything, in test you may simply test it. Try increasing dead-zones first, to filter out unwanted movement. Then set shift correctly, so that the cursor in "test" reaches all point on the test area. Then play with curve and try to set it so that it suits you. The bigger the curve, the smaller the initial response and the stepper response at the end of your joystick's axes.

If you have to apply a big dead-zone, then perhaps you should return your joystick to the shop for repairs. Sam with the shift. First try recalibrating your joystick, but if this doesn't help and you still have to apply great shift changes just to make it work, return it to the shop or get a new one. Smile

It all really depends on how much you're able to spend on it. But I'd say that FX 5700 or R 9600 Pro are the minimum worth spending your money on. Anything less means wasting your money. XT should work ok, but if you have the money, you should think about a even more powerfull card. Smile
