I got as far as installing both disks but when I try to play, the starfoce window pops up and says that I need admin rights to install it. Thing is, I am the administrator :S. The laptop is running vista so I dont know if this has anything to do with it. Any help will be much appeciated

a lot of times with laptops your account may have admin rights, but it's not "THE" administrator. i have minor problems like that on my XP laptop sometimes. don't know about vista though.

The cure-all solution to installing programs on Vista:

1. Go to your cd, explore and look for setup.exe and autorun. right click on both, go to compatibility tab, at the bottom select "run as administrator".
2. Install.

I just uninstalled both disks and reinstalled the way you said Hitman, but still starforce says it needs to be installed by the admin, there is only one account which is the admin. Is there any way which you can bypass installing starforce, or any way you can install it independently?

also now instead of the starforce box coming up, I get a protection system fatal error box saying "Unhandeled exception on the protection system host application. Try restarting the applicayion. If the problem presists contact the product customer support"

Seems I have gone and broke my starfoce...

All I tried to do was reinstall both disks by running them both as admin and setting the compatabiluty to xp sevice 2...

Is there any way at all that I can get this to work on my laptop.

I have no idea what you are trying to do, but heres the gist...

Delete everything in the c:/program files/ubisoft folder, including the ubisoft folder.

Open up the command prompt, type regedit, do a search for eagle dynamics, lock on, everything pertaining to lock on, yada yada.

---Open up the cd---, select your cd, right click on the installation file on the cd, select the compatibility tab, select run as administrator. Install the game.

On the desktop when it is installed: right click on the lockon icon, right click and run it as administrator.

Hey Hitman, I done exactly as you said for the first disk, seems a file wasnt getting deleted or something when I just uninstalled from the controll panel. So disk one works perfectly fine now, but, I installed disk 2 exactly the same way, right click icon, run as admin, I still get an error message saying that windows cannot find LockOn.exe??...

Any ides what might be happening...It's certainly not a faulty disk casue it works fine on my pc.

It doesnt recognize where you installed lomac. What version of lockon do you have? Gold or Flaming Cliffs?

I think with that runtime error you have to instead of runnung lock on from the regular icon open the MS-DOS Batch icon called Lock On too

okay i fixed the problem i was having.

i did what hitman suggested and un-installed everything and deleted everything about lomac in program files. tried to edit the registry but vista is so picky it wouldnt really let me delete them, gave me some error about not being able to delete, i cant remember exactly what it said. it would only let me delete the value. anyway..

then i browsed to the install.exe (not the autorun.exe) on the disc and made it run in XP SP2 compatibility with administrator rights (also checked "disable desktop composition", somebody in another forum suggested this, it disables the windows vista aurora feature while the program is running but it turns back on when the program is done).

ran the install .exe, installed everything, got an error about something during install but it turned out not to matter. got regular lock on launching fine. for flaming cliffs i had to install the 1.12b patch which fixes the vista problem. starforce still gave me an error about the driver not being compatible but the game launches anyway.

so basically, run all the install .exe's as admin w/XP SP2 compatibility and check "disable desktop composition". also run all short cuts to start the game with the same settings.

i had some additional problems getting hyperlobby to work, i wont go into detail about that unless someone asks though. i did get it to work eventually.

vista is such a ***** i love it.

Check if you have Starforce 3.0 or 4.0 version. If the first you are in trouble because it is very buggy ****! Wink

Dimebucket, have you installed the CD version of the 1.12b patch also?

I don't know anything about Vista, but I remember having problems with StarForce until I installed the 1.12a patch. Then it went through its activation process without incident.
