Ok so I just bought flaming cliffs and lomac and I want to start playing the game…

However, as I just realized, I need to get a new joystick. I have been looking around the site here and I see that people are using them so I want to ask if these two would be suitable for the game. (saitek cyborg evo and ms ff2). I will most probably get the one which is cheaper, but my question is, will they be good for this game and also, do I need to configure them in special way for the game to work properly etc as I see people seem to be having problems with rudders or something etc????

Next, I have some issues about the game itself. I tried lomac 1.01 without the joystick, and I find that the game if overly complicated. I mean, the last air combat game I played was probably f22 lightning 3 which was much easier, and this game seems really interesting but almost impossible to learn. … so my question is… how do I approach this game as a complete noob that doesn’t even have a joystick yet?? As in how do you guys actually play this game. In the manual I think I saw that every button on the keyboard does something (plus shift ,alt , ctl + most buttons ) so how da hell do you remember all this??

Also, which plane do I start playing with, how much of the keyboard do I actually need to use?? I hope you can see what im getting at here, I really want to learn the game but I need some starting tips on how to actually go about playing it, which keys do I need mostly and how do I play with joystick + keyboard (How do YOU play this game)..

I hope I am sort of making sense here, but since I already bought this game, I want to learn how to play it and not just toss it away .. I just hope this game was made for non pilots lol…

Thanks for any help
Btw my system specs are AMD x2 4800+ and geforce 9600gt calibre ocd, 4gb ddr2 800mhz ram.

Practice, I've been at it for the last 6 or so months and even messed about with it for a year before that...practice the tutorials, remember the key layout which you can get in printed form here: http://forum.combatace.com/ind...nloads&showfile=5173

Right now I'm reading through the manual and putting up a 1 vs 1 fight with me in the Su-27 against the Mig-29 and practicing that. I started with the A-10 when I started in the sim, good choice however it lacks the dogfighting that you will inevitably end up using. Choice is your's mate.

You only need a few commands to take off, take out some enemies, and land again .

Start engines (page UP)
Up or down throttle (+ & -)
Steer on ground when you are moving (z and x)
Close cockpit (control C)
Flaps (if you want to use them for take off)= F
And toggle Landing gear (G)
And of course the air brake (Toggle it = B)

As for flying that is all you need to know to start from taxi, fly for a bit, and land again.

You can only deploy landing gear below certain speeds. I think it is 500 for the russian planes, and 250 for the F-15.
The mig has sh^tty wheel brakes, so deploy brake parachute once you are below 300 speed on the ground when landing. Make sure your nose is all the way down before you do :d. (P for parachute)

Maybe you already know this, so i hope you're not offended with me posting this , but that's all you need to get in the air and on the ground again .

As for combat mode, watch some tutorials. There are training missions in the game itself under 'training' .

I would start with the F-15 as landing is easier with that plane, and the radar is more fun.

One more thing, i would personally definately start flying with the keyboard first . And once you get the hang of it setup your joystick .

yea thanks for all the replies. So I will start to practice with the f15 and ill get those tutorial videos downloaded.

Unfortunately I cannot afford the hotas joystick (over $300 here in nz) or the x52 (over $250) .

These prices are insane so i will have to go with the ff2 which i can get for less than $50... unless you can recommend somethin else here over the ff2

I THINK you will be fine as long as you UNinstall the game before formatting your hard drive.

There is some registry save feature- I found it convoluded at best. No one should have to screw with their registry to preserve activations. Anyway it should automatically bring you up to 14 add'l activations, and they say they will give you more if you ask. Results vary.

I'd suggest you install this on something you don't need to format so often.

i cannot stress enough how important reading the manual is. you don't have to do it all at once, but spend some time in the section of what you are trying to learn. (takeoff, radar, combat, etc)

as far as the plane, doesn't matter which one you start with, as long as you stick with just that one until you learn it. well i say it doesn't matter, but you REALLY don't want to fly the su-25 first. it has no HUD.

I use a very simple stick MS Sidewinder - used for 10 years
So you need just the following essentials - Buttons on the top of the stick, Hat-switch, Throttle control, and a preferably a twisty handle.

For a Quick Guide that you can print out(especially for the ground-pounders), click on those in my signature

Good luck and enjoy

It's not your birth right to play every game the minute it is released, so your defense "im just a poor student"... is diarrhea.

So, with the above in mind: If you can't even afford to buy some games, maybe it's time to find another f^cking hobby.

******* parasite leech ..

;-)

lol and i thought you "ignored" me,,

and no I didn't even use that defense. I actually bought this game because I thought the game was decent, and I still think that it is decent, I just don't like the fact that I can only install the game on my computer a certain number of times, and then I have an option on the website to "BUY AGAIN"... ok fuk that.. that makes ME a parasite leech and not the people who sold me the game??

and wtf do those smart arse comments about me make you now, a capitalist goodie good Santa clause... look man if you enjoy being an honest, all caring citizen of this world, then do that... but dont tell me I'm a parasite leech as though you are trying to offend me, because I already know I am. Im eastern european and I most likely dont share the same mentality as you do. In fact, i grew up in socialism until America decided that my country needed help, so they destroyed, or globalized the place, bringing in Big mac and other useful bits and pieces... not to mention they also like you told everyone that all these new things were 'really worth paying for'.

Again, thanks for calling me names though, I love the free world, not to mention , i love enjoying hobbies that are free, because if i have to pay a certain price to have fun, then something inside me just tells me that im not actually having fun... again mentality....
you just go on and pay for what you think is worth paying for, and ill do the same, because for me, IN MOST CASES, paying for a computer game is not the same as paying for chomsky's new book.

First, you and other parasites bring DRM into the world.

Then, you whine about it. I mean i find that stupid since you're the one responsible for this whole DRM thing .

How is that for irony Big Grin

And yes, i'm sure you being a bottom feeding downloader is actually your way of protesting against captitalism.

LoL !

I don't buy it . I think its indeed the difference of mentality between your kind and me.

ok good,

I have no idea what you are saying, but ok do go now to another thread and teach somebody else how they should lead their lives lol, and don't forget to call them names if you dont agree with what they do... because ultimately, you are the one that can justify every point against piracy in just two lines, when thick books have been written about this very issue...

Please do leave my thread now, you know, at least stand up to what you say and finally put me on ignore like you were supposed to..

And wtf is DRM, the abbreviation stands for about 10 different things. If you are referring to the whole financial crisis and blaming me for it, then obviously you have either watched too much cnn or have no clue about finance. I would recommend for you to stop spending money on joysticks and games, and sign up to the Wall Street Journal to educate yourself a little about how the finance world works...

and by the way, i am a finance/accounting/sociology student in my last year so please, even if you still feel like stating something, at least explain it using examples like an educated person would, instead of just saying what you think is right and putting a Smile at the end to justify for it.

Awesome. The financial crisis ...
Googly

DRM :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D...al_rights_management

I'll try to explain it to you if there are too many words on the wiki page : DRM is the the thing you whine about (5 activations for instance), and the reason you are going 'back' to downloading software , you say.

Funny thing however, is that the only reason DRM exists, is because you pirated software in the first place.

Now that's irony. I hope i don't have to explain what irony means...

Now about your excuses to pirate , they're all lame. (But this you already know of course)

I'll try to explain now why i have absolutely no respect for people downloading games for free and why it ****es me off so much .

It's people like you, that for some weird reason, think they are born with the right to play every game out there whether they can pay for them or not, that are destroying the pc gaming industry.

If this continues, we'll all be playing mario sports on our wii consoles in a few years. LoL, yeah! Sounds like fun , except not .
Because nobody will be crazy enough to shell out millions of dollars to make AWESOME PC games, to see that for every game SOLD, 10 are PIRATED.

And before you come up with the "pirates aren't customers in the first place", let me assure you that MOST gamers WILL buy the game they want if they couldnt get it for free.
The 'hardcore pirates' (or 'less unfortunate sh^t faces' Smile) that would NEVER buy a game is only a really really small percentage.

Piracy does hurt the PC gaming industry bad.
We are already getting the most horrible console ports on PC . Months later then on console, if they ever make it to PC that is.

Not to mention the DRM that these 'pirates' b^tch about.
It's because of their downloading sh^t for free that we have DRM in the first place! Blink
If those children and nerds didn't download, there would be no DRM at all ... Smile

Look man, i'm a hypocrite for sure. I couldn't care less if you downloaded every song ever made by 'fitty cent', but pirating pc games is just LAME.

Did you know that the good PC game developers are dropping like flies as of lately ?
All going to make playstation and xbox games ?

Seriously man, i can't stop you from downloading games for free.

But please don't advertise your downloading habits over here , because i will ride you about it untill obvlivion.

Smile

So what you are now saying that I didn't even purchase the game? You want my to post a screen shot of my receipt of purchase?

And you are saying that DRM exist to stop pirates. Any retarded person could go on piratebay and download this game, even though it has this DRM protection. There are guides online to get this game working even if pirated.
.... So again you are missing my point. I bought this game. I did not pirate it and its annoying me that I am being treated 'as a pirate' and I am limited to the number of times i can install the game.

You did make some valid points about how piracy ruined the gaming industry, but i could also argue the opposite, that the gaming industry is in fact S*** because of people like you, who are in fact willing to pay for any crappy game that comes out. Look at a company like EA for example. According to what you say, people like yourself, who are fully against piracy, actually buy their bad quality/bugged games, which ultimately means that EA will continue producing crap because people are willing to buy it.

If i was a EA CEO, I would not want to spend extra resources on a game to make it perfect, because I know that some idiotic people will still purchase the game, and trust me, there are enough idiots out there for the company to break even and make a multimillion $ profit.

So regardless of the game's quality, there will always be people who will buy the actual game... I mean, are you saying that if pirating stopped, the quality of say EA games would improve? Maybe you could argue that, but i highly doubt it. Profit making companies today are famous for incurring minimum costs to maximize profits, hence laying off employees.

I actually believe that if companies produced decent quality games, as for example Blizzard does, people would pay money for them, because its just worth it. Therefore, EA and Blizzard cannot charge the same price for their games. I am willing to pay $100 for a quality product made by blizzard, and I am not willing to pay the same amount (which is the case on in most shops) for an EA game that gives me less benefit in the future (i.e. less fun in my free time)

So in summary, I am willing to in fact pay for games, but if the price reflects the quality of the product. I will pay $100 for a decent game, and I will pay $10 (not $100) for an EA game, which will keep me playing for about 3 hours before I end up feeling guilty for buying and wasting my time and money. To address this more clearly, I will in fact not even bother wasting my downloading cap for a EA game (this would cost me $1 per game) as I know from reviews that the games is pure S***.

Therefore, until prices of games match their quality, I will pirate. If the price matches the reviews and quality, I will not pirate. I paid $100 for Diablo 2 and $60 for expansion. Before that, I paid for Warcrft 2 and Warcraft 1 and I'm happy i did.
I also paid $30 for LOMAC and Expansion which was worth it considering the game is very bugged, but this game still keeps me entertained every once in a while. If i paid $100 for ' once in a while quality entertainment', I would feel like i got ripped off). So again, with Lomac, I don't feel like i was ripped off, but then again I do slightly as they want me to purchase the game again when I use up my 5 Installations.
