Hi.
On my new Windows Vista laptop im trying to install Riven, CDVersion. I pop the disc in, wait for the autorun to run and click install. The Riven install is no problem, the installation starts properly and it goes to 100%. After the installation, it asks me to install QuickTime, and this is where the problem is. I dont have any other version of QuickTime on my computer, so i press next to make it install. It says that its "checking harddrive for other versions of QuickTime" and after it has done that in bout 30 sec, a window pops up and says something like "The application has run into a problem and is not answering" (something like that :P) and the installer exits. Now i thought like "Well, who cares 'bout QuickTime? The game should have been installed anyways." but then i look in my Start menu, and i cant find the Riven folder... I check my C: where it should have been installed to (C:\Program Files), but no. Its not there. xD I have tried to reinstall it 3 times now, without any success... I have noticed some things in the installer that semms odd, though: 1. It says that my C:drive only have 2000mb space left (2gb, right?) but it really has 60gb space left. xD 2. When the QuickTime installer stops to work, it is always the same folder its checking (its some weird folder name... <.< ------------------------ So, my question is: Is there a way to skip the earlier version check, or is there another fix? (Oh, and sorry for my crappy english. ^^) Thanks, /Carl. |

Welcome to the Forums!
Who cares 'bout QuickTime? You care, because Riven won't run without the correct QuickTime files! So, even if you can get Riven installed, you'll also need to install the correct QuickTime files. More about that later. First, some questions: 1. Is the version of Riven you're trying to install on multiple discs or on a single disc? 2. Do you log into Vista with full Administrator privileges, close all open applications, and disable your anti-virus software, before attempting a Riven install? 3. What is the *exact* "weird folder name" at which the installer fails? 4. By what means have you determined that your C: drive has 60GB of free space? 5. Immediately before the Riven installs, did you defragment your C: drive and then check it for errors? 6. Even though you believe that you don't have it installed, have you checked for QuickTime in the installed programs list of Add or Remove Programs? That's Start > Run > type appwiz.cpl in the box > OK > wait for the Currently installed programs list to populate. 7. Have you used Windows Update (Internet Explorer > Tools > Windows Update) to install the available Vista updates, including Service Pack 1 (SP1)? 8. Have you tried running the Riven installer in compatibility mode and/or as an administrator? (For details, see How to troubleshoot issues that may prevent a program from being installed correctly on a Windows Vista-based computer.) Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |
