Uniop,

I read about your problems with your game set up when you tried to change your .ini files to get SCDA to work in multiplayer. One thing to remember is any changes you make to your game files are risky, so it pays to make a BACKUP copy of any .ini files you want to change and store it in another folder separate from the game folder. If your changes result in an unstable game, it's then easy to delete the altered .ini file and replace it with the original one. I wish that I could be of more help with the multiplayer aspect of SCDA, but I've just haven't played that part of the game.

As for the buggy reports of SCDA, all I can say is that when I first installed it, it would constantly CTD or give me an error message. I couldn't even get into the main game to play it. After using some of the many suggestions from other forum users here (most of which are in my list above, plus a few new ones recently), I finally got a stable game. All you have to do is read all the gripes from other users to see there is a BIG problem with SCDA. After all the tweaking of SCDA, I will still get an occasional CTD or crash with an error message when playing the game, so if your setup is stable for single-player, count yourself lucky.

I'm going check out some of KungFu_CIA's suggestions and see if the game looks or runs any differently and confirm that any settings are not being saved when you use the in-game menu.

Your moderator question seems to have been answered.

KungFu_CIA,

I went and investigated whether menu display choices were being changed during level loading and here's what I found out. All settings ARE being kept, at least in my setup, but only in the SplinterCell4.ini file.

What I found is that the checkmark that you place in the 'customize settings' box will move back to the 'next generation' box when you leave the options menu, but if you recheck the 'customize settings' box and look at your settings, they will still be as you previously set. They will also show up in the SplinterCell4.ini file as well.

So the only bug I can see, at least in my case, is that the checkmark is being moved, but no settings are being altered. I did notice this little bug when I first played the game and thought the same thing was happening as you did, but I didn't think anything of it at the time since the game looked like it was running with my setting selections.

The only things that I might change in the .ini file is to select a higher than 4X AA setting and to enable soft shadows. I have noticed that the 'soft shadows' selection is the only options menu item that won't do anything in the game when you select it and that 4X AA is the highest selection choice in the menu.

My graphics card may not be able to handle it since I only have a Nvidia 7950GT and I like to run it at 1600 X 1200. At least it has 512 megs of VRAM and my system has 2 GB of RAM. I'm going to experiment.

Tunnelcat:

That is interesting to know.

Unfortunately, I've uninstalled SCDA.

Why?

Because while I had a fairly stable in-game experience... The game destroyed all my save games half-way through the campaign (Right before Cozumel).

I started another game and played all the way up to the same point and the same thing happened.

I've had it with the game.

I just do not have the free time to replay the game multiple times just on the off-chance I can get past a certain point.

The save game corruption isn't just a PC bug either. It is also present on the Xbox 360 version as well. The game is just an unfinished, unoptimized P.O.S.

I figure I'll eventually get a 360... Like maybe for Christmas... And then play the game the way it was meant to be played because at least the save game bug is a small one compared to the multiple ones the PC has. Plus, I want to play both Ghost Recon games, Mass Effect, and others.

Thanks for taking the time and responding to my and others posts. The sad thing is the game is dead. It's almost a year old and within three months it was already dead (SP & MP) due to it being released unfinished... Which is a shame because if UBISoft just invested some time in a patch to correct some of the major issues like stability, performance and save game bugs it could be like CT where you at least have a finished game. Whether or not people like the game play of SP, or MP is an entirely different matter... Wink

No one plays because you're one of the FEW FEW FEW that it actually works well enough for to be able to derive enjoyment and playability.

Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner, been very busy elsewhere.

Are you talking about the defusing the bomb on the tugboat? After you shut off the bomb, run outside to the edge of the bridge facing the city and jump off and a cut scene will start showing Sam diving off of the boat.

Yeah and the game is VERY buggy, especially MP. Most people can at least get SP to work most of the time. I don't have any hints for MP. I ran into one level that I couldn't get into the elevator from the basement, even though I had done so in an earlier try. Weird! The doors weren't even rendered, just a black hole!

I don't have SCDA installed at the moment, but I'm going to be putting it back on a new larger hard drive I just bought, along with all the older Splinter Cell games. I can't resist playing Sam Fisher.
