Hi, I installed Myst End of Ages fine and when I started to play it crashed. It happens every time about 2 minutes into the game when he is reading the letter. It crashes when it says the word "Atrus" and goes straight to the desktop. Thanks.

Suggestions:

1. You have only 256 MB of system RAM and really should install at least 256 MB of additional memory. Even if this doesn't solve the EoA crashing problem, your entire system will run much better!

Before doing any of the following, log into Windows with full Administrator privileges and close all open applications. Do not use a download helper or download accelerator utility to download drivers or DirectX 9.0c.

2. Update your sound driver to the latest from Dell. For your Dimension 4550, this is "Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio, Driver, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi System, v.5.12.01.3538, A08", available here. Refer to the Installation Instructions toward the bottom of the Dell page. Reboot when installation is complete, log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. Then play EoA.

3. Install the latest driver from NVIDIA (ForceWare 93.71) for your GeForce4 MX 420 video chipset, as detailed under Installing NVIDIA Drivers in Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP. If ForceWare 93.71 doesn't help, try the earlier versions mentioned.

4. Your video chipset is relatively ancient and is working with only 64MB of video memory, and thus probably isn't capable of doing what EoA is currently asking of it. Carry out the general and in-game video setting changes detailed in step 2 of Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes with Win XP.
