Hi Shiloh!

The only thing I can think of that might help is to increase the size of your virtual memory (pagefile).

Heimdall posted a useful "how-to" here - scroll down to the bottom.

As a first pass, try closing all unnecessary applications and processes running in the background, then start EoA. Use Windows Task Manager to close everything except for Explorer.exe, Ctfmon.exe, and whatever your hardware needs. See step 4 in Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes for details.

More suggestions, some or all of which may be necessary:

1. Install the latest drivers for your eHome Infrared hardware.

2. Do steps 1 through 7 under Overall Windows and Hard Disk Tune-up in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP.

3. Reset your virtual memory paging file size to 2X your system RAM. See step 3 in Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes for details.

4. You should have installed NVIDIA's version 78.01 driver as detailed under Installing NVIDIA Drivers in Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP.

Will try that now. One thing I remember, it gets really slow when I'm on top of the Noloben plateau. Let's see if this works.

Another thing about nvidia drivers is that the installer is very picky about (Norton) anti-virus software. You have to disable it whilst you install the drivers.

I have AVG, not Norton. Would that make a difference?

you should never have anti-virus programs running (norton, mcafee, avg, none of them) while you install ANY program or ANY drivers. it can only cause problems. in fact, it is always best to shut down ALL running applications before you install anything, and to run defrag after the install is complete.

Okay. Like I said before, I'm clueless.

Off I go to uninstall and reinstall.

Please do carefully read (and follow) the instructions above. For example, step 9e. says in part "Close all unnecessary applications and processes running in the background, including anti-virus software."

It's best to print out the instructions and check off each step as you do it.

Okay, I uninstalled the drivers. Shut down my firewall and anti-virus. Re-installed the drivers and defragmented and scanned for spyware and cut all my processes back to the minimum. The checkdisk and scanning for errors has been done as well.

And it's still molasses-ville. Should I just suck it up and get the next grade up of videocard?

Also moved my soundcard's hardware acceleration back to basic. Still no dice.
