Hi there,

Have just bought a new comp(dell) and wanted to try a myst game. Dissapointment! 3 minutes into the game after the lady have done her speech the game freezes....or actually the game doesn't freezes I just can't do anything. The graphics and sound are still there(the orb is still shifting color), but my mouse cursor has dissapeared. When I right click I get the "free look" symbol but can't move.....HELP!!

Always log into Windows with full Administrator privileges and close all open applications before installing any driver or DirectX. "Download accelerator" or "download helper" utilities should NOT be used when downloading any driver or DirectX. Close any open applications before playing EoA.

Play EoA after completing each of the following suggestions, to see if the problem has disappeared:

1. What appears to be a video problem can in fact be an audio problem. Download and install the latest driver from Dell for your SigmaTel Audio sound chipset. This is the "SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio Driver", R114282.EXE, version 5.10.0.4823, released 20-12-2005, 6 MB. Download and installation instructions are at the bottom of the Dell page. Disable your anti-virus software before beginning the installation.

2. Download the setup file for the latest release of DirectX 9.0c (dxwebsetup.exe), available here, to a folder on your hard disk. Install DirectX as follows:

First, clear your Internet Explorer caches.
-- a. Close all open applications.
-- b. Open a single Internet Explorer session.
-- c. Click on Tools > Internet Options.
-- d. Click on Delete Cookies > OK.
-- e. Click on Delete Files (check the 'Delete all offline content' box) > OK.
-- f. Click on Clear History > Yes.
-- g. Click on OK to exit.

Then Use Windows Explorer to search your hard disk for \temp, \tmp, and \temporary folders, and delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use. If Windows complains when you try to delete a file, leave that file alone!
-- a. Click on Tools > Find > Files or Folders.
-- b. Type temp or tmp or temporary in the Named: box.
-- c. Click on the arrow at the right end of the Look in: box and then click on the disk drive to be searched.
-- d. Click on Find Now to start the search.
-- e. Click on the temp (or tmp or temporary) folders found to open them.
-- f. Delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use.

And then install DirectX 9.0c.
-- a. Click on Start > Run.
-- b. Browse to dxwebsetup.exe, and double-click on it to put it in the Open box.
-- c. Click on OK to start the installation process.
-- d. Follow the installation Wizard's instructions. Accept the install defaults whenever possible.
-- e. Reboot, log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close any open applications.
-- f. Play EoA.

3. Download and re-install the latest driver from Dell for your GeForce 7300 LE video chipset. This is the "nVidia GeForce 7300 LE Driver", R115021.EXE, version 82.65, released 23-03-2006, 21 MB. Download and installation instructions are at the bottom of the Dell page. Disable your anti-virus software before beginning the installation.

4. Try steps 2, 4 and 5 (in that order) in Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes.

5. If none the above help, re-install EoA from a clean boot as detailed under Installing and Re-Installing EoA, "6. Clean-boot EoA Re-install, Previous Installation" in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP. You may need to do step 2 again in Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes after the re-install.
