Your DxDiag report doesn't indicate a DVD drive. What's your DVD drive make and model number?

uhm... _NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A i think..

I don't know if it will help any but I noticed that your Directx was version 9.a. You should update it to 9.c. It might help or maybe I'm in left field. Just trying to help.

hehe i already updated it to 9.c and still doesnt work.. The amazing thing is that i could play the myst v demo 3 months ago... i downloaded it from http://www.3dgamers.com and it worked. However days ago i downloaded it again from the same site and doesnt work. Wierd... Thanks anyway gnorke.

Suggestions:

1. Use your anti-virus software to do complete scans of both of your hard disks. This is the 'start it and let it crank' type of scan!

Do complete spyware and adware scans of both of your hard disks. I use and recommend:
-- Spybot - Search & Destroy
-- Ad-aware SE

Both have free versions!

Note that Spybot and Ad-aware DO NOT protect against viruses!

2. Install the latest driver for your Radeon X700, Catalyst 5.11, as detailed in Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP. Even if you don't install the driver, be certain to at least install DirectX 9.0c, available here, and reboot.

3. Have Windows re-detect your DVD drive:
-- a. Log into Windows as Administrator.
-- b. Click on Start > Run, type services.msc, then click on OK.
-- c. Double-click on Plug and Play. (If you get a Configuration Manager message, click on OK.)
-- d. In the Startup Type list, click on Automatic, then click on OK.
-- e. Close Services, and reboot into normal Windows.
-- f. If you get no error messages during bootup, reboot into Safe Mode.
-- g. Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop.
-- h. Click on Properties, click on the Hardware tab, then click on Device Manager.
-- i. Click on your DVD drive, and press Delete.
-- j. Close Device Manager, go back to the Desktop, and reboot into normal windows. Your drive should be re-detected.

4. Your system BIOS is version A02, while the latest version is A07. This version is available here from Dell. See Installation Instructions for the Universal (Windows/MS DOS) format, Run the BIOS update utility from Windows environment for installation instructions. Follow the instructions exactly, and DO NOT do ANYTHING on your PC (like turn off PC power, browse the Internet, etc.) while the BIOS update utility is working, lest you end up with a very expensive doorstop!

5. Create a new User Account with full Administrator privileges. (See How To Create and Configure User Accounts in Windows XP for details.) Then install Myst V from a clean boot to your new User Account, as detailed in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP. Be certain to:
-- a. Pay special attention to the items listed under "In general, any or all of the following may be necessary to minimize EoA installation problems:". If your DVD drive is in fact an NEC ND-1100A, the latest firmware update from Dell is available here. Follow the installation instructions exactly!
-- b. Use Windows Explorer to find vpd.properties (probably in your \Windows folder), and delete this file if it exists.
-- c. Wherever it says "Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges.", substitute "Log into your new User Account."
-- d. Before installing, do step 4 (clearing your Internet Explorer caches and \temp, \tmp, and \temporary folders) under Overall Windows and Hard Disk Tune-up With Win XP.
