I just got Myst V off Direct2Drive. It installed just fine. I start the game and my browser opens with a GameSpy webpage that says "Error connecting to the internet. You need to be connected to the Internet to activate your product."
i know I'm connected(or I wouldn't be posting this) and I know it's not my firewall. Any ideas?

I have this same problem! I bought it through Windows Marketplace from Direct2Drive... I need help.. I tried contacting them (no response) I hate Direct2Drive!!!!!

Have you gone to the Direct2Drive Support website and read their FAQ's/Knowledge Base/HowTo regarding game activation, getting a new key, etc., as suggested above by nanoukmetal?

If not, do so now!

I am having a related problem. I downloaded from D2D and have Vista Home Premium w/ SP1. EoA loads but when I get to the start page and click New Player, I get a black screen and Task Manager says the app is "not responding". I've read the related posts and done just about everything that seems to apply (run as administrator, run as Win XP compatible, downloaded updates, changed resolution, etc.) but still can't play the game. I'm not a "real" gamer (except for Myst) and not so tech saavy. Can u help?

Welcome to forum. I am not sure about downloaded Myst V on Vista Sp1, but it could be the same promblem people are having with stack problems with Vista Sp1. Check out the thread about stack problems. There might be the same problem you are having. There is a fix for that in the thread. It is a matter of downloading some info that might be missing with your install. Check it out, it can't hurt to try it. Good luck.

Hey, thanks for the welcome! Unfortunately, I have combed Heimdell's posts for answers and have already tried the remedy for the stack problem-no help. I appreciate the response nonetheless.

Unfortunately, EoA may not support your Mobile Intel 965 Express video chipset. You already have the latest video driver from Dell installed, so there's no help there. You should try Ubisoft Support to confirm whether your video chipset is supported or not.

1. Visit the Ubisoft Support Center.
-- First, try Search the Knowledge Base (FAQ), which takes you to the Ubisoft Solution Center's Answers page. Search for your problem using as few key words as possible, and be specific when you select a product and a category.
-- If you can't find an answer that fits, call Technical Support at (919) 460-9778 in the US or look for an International Technical Support phone number.

2. Send a support request/question to a Technical Support Representative using "Ask a Question".
-- Click on the Solution Center's Ask a Question tab. You can also check on the status of questions you've previously sent, as well as see your entire question history, by clicking on the My Stuff tab.
-- Log in and submit your report via Ask a Question.


Further suggestions:

1. Set your processor affinity so that EoA runs using only one CPU core. Refer to:
-- a. Monitoring and Optimizing Apps on Dual-Core and Multiprocessor Systems. To use the Task Manager method:
----- 1. Click on the EoA Desktop start icon to start the game.
----- 2. Press Alt+Tab (both keys at the same time) to go back to the Desktop.
----- 3. Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del (all 3 keys at the same time).
----- 4. Click on the Processes tab, and right-click on the eoa.exe process listing.
----- 5. Click on Set Affinity..., and uncheck the appropriate boxes.
----- 6. Click on OK, and close Task Manager.
----- 7. Alt+Tab back to EoA, and close back to the Desktop.
----- 8. Click on the EoA Desktop icon to start the game.
-- b. Both methods for setting affinity masks as described in ImageCFG.
-- c. RunFirst.

2. Re-install EoA from a clean boot.
-- a. Uninstall EoA using the Control Panel Programs utility.
----- 1. Click on Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
----- 2. Click on the "Myst V End of Ages" entry, then click on Uninstall. Follow the Wizard's prompts.
----- 3. When the uninstall is complete, close back to the Desktop.
-- b. Use Windows Explorer to find vpd.properties. It's probably in your \Windows folder.
----- 1. Rename the file to something like OLD_vpd.properties. If you don't rename it, the EoA install Wizard will tell you that the game is already installed.
----- 2. Or, you can delete vpd.propertiesif you're certain that no other programs also use it. If other programs do use the file, deleting it will probably cause the other programs not to run.
-- c. Do step 1 in How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista.
-- d. Re-install EoA. Use the install defaults whenever possible.
-- e. Do step 7 in How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista.
-- f. Reboot, log into Windows with full Administrator privileges.
----- 1. Close all open applications.
----- 2. Disable all system protection software running in the background, including anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up programs.
-- g. Start EoA by clicking on the Desktop icon.
-- h. If EoA doesn't play properly, try running the game in Compatibility Mode and with the Run as administrator option enabled.

Heimdell-I was hoping you'd respond. I'll check with Ubisoft about the chipset; I figured it might be something like that, but didn't have enough knowledge. BTW, I set processor affinity, run as administrator, and got downloads and drivers from Dell; i.e.,followed all your posts and suggestions! (except for the reboot, as I'm not sure D2D will let me do it again.)
