YAY I just played the Myst V demo on PC.
Have to say, although its great, I'm really disappointed with the graphics, the anti-aliasing is completely non-existant despite the fact I pumped it to full... although I think it's my graphics card (nVividia GeForce 4 Ti4200... which IS the minimum requirement but still...) Anyway I found a weird bug... I dropped the slate and the Bahro touched it and disappeared (i guess I was too close to him). So the next time, I dropped it and the bahro comes up and just stands there looking at it. Then he didn't move ever again, and I couldnt come within a certain distance of him or the slate, and had to restart...?? Problem? I doubt this is meant to happen because he wasn't moving at all, not even bobbing up and down a bit. _______________________________________________ EMS' Relto Perhaps The Ending Has Not Yet Been Written... |

Actually... I kinda fixed the AA problem. nVidia users experiencing this problem, remember that like Myst 4 (which didnt have AA at all), you can go into the desktop properties and set AA overrides for a certain .exe file. Do this for eoa.exe to override the AA and it will be activated.

Yeah I used to... right now all i wanted to do was play it since it wasnt coming out for another mont or so, and considering that in australia we always have to wait for these things.

I guess I'm like EMS... I just can't wait! I don't think the demo will spoil the game all that much. Be sure to catch The Cavern Today podcast -- the voice of the Uru community! www.thecaverntoday.com Prologue KI #946599 D'mala KI #60628 |

Hey,EMS,
I have the same symptom where the Bahro appeared then disappeared when I go close. Then I gave him room and he appeared again and froze. Everything else moves and works, but I can't get close enough to get the slate back. I've tried linking out and back but he just sits there. Hope it's not a bug. Dadguy |

The "Bahro Bug" happened to me also. He just froze, bending over the tablet. The only way I could continue the demo was to close the game and restart. Only happened that one time though! I went to the exact same spot and did the exact same thing, trying to reproduce the freeze but it did not happen again.

Same Problem here. Every time I draw something
on the tablet, a bahro appears, scratches his head and disappears. Then another one appears and stays there forever. On my friends machine thats the one who returns the tablet. System: Athlon 950, 512MB, GeForce 3, Win XP. |

Just now I encountered "the Bahro bug" as well. On Noloben, I drew 5 circles in a pattern similar to that seen on a domino (center one larger), dropped the tablet, and backed away.
A Bahro appeared, looked at the tablet, touched his chest/shoulder (similiar to the manner in which Esher does when he links out), and the bahro vanished - the tablet stayed. I then when back into the bubble to look at the pedestal. While there I heard a Barho sound and turned to look. The Bahro was frozen. I went out to look and see if I could get the tablet. But I was prevented from getting too close - like some exclusion zone had been setup by the program. The only way out was to exit the program and restart... FWIW, I have a ATI Raedon 9800 Pro 128MB video card, 3 GHz P4, with 1 GB RAM. I've never had any problems playing URU, PotS, To D'ni, Revelation, or any of the MYST games. |

Fortunately, I havn't had any unusual problems other than the Bahro scratching his head because he didn't understand my scribbling. I did make sure however, that I was away from the bubble entrance, when I did the 5 circle thing on the tablet, there was a slight delay after the Bahro read it, he/she went thru a few arm raisings and knee bends, then went into the bubble and made the new link. Maybe if your character is in the way, your system freezes.

Ran the demo on laptop (I was impatient...) with the following config:
Dell Inspirion 8500 WinXP Pro ver 2002 SP2 Intel Pentium 4-M 2.2Ghz 1 Gig Ram NVIDIA GeForce4 4200 Driver version 6.7.4.2 Occasional I have a glitch / skip when Esher is talking the second time. Outside of that, I have the video options up to max and haven't had a prob. There are no URLs in a link book. |

Try uninstalling the demo and then re-installing it from a clean boot:
-- a. Use Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs to uninstall "Myst V Demo". -- b. Reboot, and log into Windows with full Administrator privileges. -- c. If you didn't do so above, use Windows Explorer to search all drives for \temp, \tmp, and \temporary folders. Delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use. -- d. Click Start > Run. -- e. Type msconfig in the Open: box, then click on OK. -- f. Click on Selective Startup on the General tab. -- g. Under Selective Startup, clear the check boxes for: ----- 1. Process SYSTEM.INI File ----- 2. Process WIN.INI File ----- 3. Load Startup Items -- h. On the Services tab, click the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, then click Disable All. -- i. Click on OK, and then click on Restart. -- j. Install the demo. ----- 1. Click on Start > Run and browse to the demo installer file. ----- 2. Double-click on the file to put it in the Open: box. ----- 3. Click on OK to start the installation process. -- k. When demo installation is complete (wait for it!), restore the settings changed in steps d. through i. ----- 1. Click Start > Run. ----- 2. Type msconfig in the Open box, then click on OK. ----- 3. Click on Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services on the General tab. ----- 4. Click on OK, and then click on Restart to reboot into normal Windows. Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |

I've played the demo about 10 times now on two different machines and it's happened once. You get an invisible wall around the bahro which is frozen in place. The only thing you can do is restart the demo. I hope too that it's not in the full game.

It's in the final game too apparently. I had the same thing happen in Tahgira right at the second pedestal, just after the ladder. I entered the first sign to get the tablet up there, then entered the other. Got the geothermal event and the Bahro came and got stuck on the tablet.
The collision boundary for the Bahro is still intact, but I found I can get up the ladder and sneak up behind him and get in the boundary. The tablet is stuck on the ground and I can't pick it up now. I continued on for a bit until I needed to make the steam to get further and found the tablet is still stuck there with the Bahro. Finally thought to check on the internet and lo and behold, the demo had the same problem. I'm going to try to get it back, but I may have to call the three hours in the game a loss. I didn't think of making save points along the route, but I would highly recommend it to you all! |

Good News!!
In the actual game (or at least in my case) if you exit out of Myst and go back in, the Bahro is gone and you can once again pick up the tablet. That had me a wee bit nervous to say the least... |

Glad to find out you were right! Leaving and coming back fixed it (whew).
I actually had better luck with that particular drawing (to get to keep in Taghira) when I went somewhere else than the spot where you can see it...

I had the same thing happen when I dropped the slate at the edge of the pond in Tahgira. The Bahro appeared to be frozen up to his neck in ice, and the slate was inaccessible at the bottom of the pond. Oops. Quitting and returning removed the hapless Bahro, but I think I had to go back to my last save to get the slate back.
